Trolling is another term for baiting. The term "to troll" started out as a fishing reference. Not like an actual troll, like the ones that hide under bridges. Trolling for responses. It evolved over time, but the term essentially meant baiting.
I never understood how optimisim, cheering for your favorite team, showing support were such character flaws in the eyes of some folks. Trolling has lost all meaning anyway. It's been replaced by pessimism and argument. Talking about the team or the sport is what these forums should be about, not talking at each other. Fact is we can win 4 games in a row. Until we don't, it's a possibility. If a person doesn't like a thread, there's another one that'll float your boat. Man it feels good to get a win over the Spurs last night and I want 3 more of those! I think the team does too! That's not a double standard, it's pride, swagger and confidence. Safe money is not on the Blazers if you're gambling but I don't gamble so it's irrelevant to me.
Trolling means the same thing now that it did ten years ago. A troll is someone who posts something to get a reaction out of people. It means they have less than genuine intentions when they post something.
You must not consider hockey a sport, then. It's happened 4 times in the NHL, including twice in the past 5 years.
Like starting a thread saying they guarantee we'll win the series. Congrats on being positive and all, but that was posted strictly to get a reaction
I have to agree with MM on some (not all) small points. Trolling can both go for getting a good reaction or a bad on. The only difference is we are naturally accepting of a person who trolls in the extreme positive to get great reactions and we take offense to those to troll in the extreme negative to get other reactions..
Every post is made to get A reaction but trolling is meant to get a negative reaction. I don't think this thread was meant for a negative reaction.
I'll take it, damnit. First one since my wife agreed to marry me 24 years ago. I hope it turns out better for you
And there it is. Thanks. Technically negative threads get positive posts. It's the homer posts that get the negative ones
Come on MM, we finally won a game, made it to the second round for the first time in 14 years, have a quality young HEALTHY core, there are so many positives to talk about with this team. Or even talk about the drawbacks, the bench, the inside scoring..., but this non-stop pointing fingers at how the board is run is just tedious. It's just a bore. What are your thoughts on game 5?
You know, had we won game three I told my doctor we had a shot to win in six, but after losing I thought we would win last night and lose badly in game five. SA thinks this as well because they rested their entire starting line up in the 4th quarter. They don't seem the least bit concerned
I view trolling as when somebody says something so stupid or so obvious you can't help but call it out. This calls for other people to respond and creates a log jam of stupidity that can include Mensa members. If you doubt me, I suggest you go on the official boards of the Philly Eagles, Oakland Raiders, and New York Jets.
I admit I had given up hope and was just watching the last game out of my blazer addiction, but then when they started to play well, I quickly recovered my smile and my enthusiastic TV viewing stance. Had a blast, and personally, I'm just real happy it isnt a sweep, as I think sweeps can be very harmful on the psyche of a team. As far as next game goes, I have no idea, but I'll be perched and ready to cheer on every Blazer point. I actually have a pretty good feeling about next game, but after watching the first three I don't trust my gut feeling much anymore.
They've obviously done way better this year than I thought they would, so I am watching with house money. It's a common saying, but it IS a process.
