Fishing lasts longer...it's like smoking after sex or foreplay before sex....now if sex smells fishy....then fishing is better ..think of fishing as a long cigarette break for non smokers..both activities have a climax that is triggered by a quivering sensation
Single folks adopted the fishing terms for clubbing and trying to get laid...trolling, baiting, reeling them in...hook line and sinker....big fish in a small pond...couldn't land that one...it got away...there are so many connections but fishermen (and women) are calm, can hang for hours and meditate...restless people usually don't like to fish
I love fishing, truly, but that's my main frustration. If I am not catching anything or just spending a lot of the time rigging my gear I start thinking, "ugh, I could be getting xyz done right now". It's a bit of a dance but I'm sure as I get older I will fish more, because I do like that peace and solitude.
To me it's like letting the river wash your brain out and flush your soul....it's my idea of going to the temple. Clears the mind and you become just like the birds on the river..trying to catch dinner I enjoy a day on the river even if I don't catch a fish. That's happened plenty. Makes catching your limit much sweeter!
I am very much the same. So many things in life going on, very hard to sit still if I am not accomplishing something. One thing Sir, Please don't discount reaching a peace of mind, or bringing oneself peace, as a worthy accomplishment. Riverman is right. We all need a flush/cleansing once in a while. My suggestion? Find places to fish that includes a hike. So, even if you don't get a bite, you get the exercise and nature experience.
Good call on the hike suggestion and I'll definitely be fishing this summer now that the weather has turned. I have other ways of finding peace in the meantime. You know, alcohol, strippers, and driving fast on motorcycles without a helmet. Just the good stuff..
