What planet do you people live on? In what reality is Obama pushing a "strongly left agenda" and a "socialist"? Jesus Christ, he's been more right-leaning moderate than Bush on almost every fucking issue, and even the Healthcare idea was stolen part-and-parcel from THE FUCKING REPUBLICANS.

If anything, I HOPE that Obama says fuck you to the obstructionist righties and starts to get some shit done for the American people. Not the 1%, not the fundies, but average Joes who need a little push in their direction from the daily fuckjob we get.

Reminder: he did not have any obstructionism his first two years in office. You've seen the best from Obama.

OK, let's take the stimulas/bank bailout issue for a moment. What was the PRACTICAL alternative?

In case you hadn't noticed, the recession is international. No American president of either party can stop it. If Obama had opted to do nothing, how would our situation be any better? The stimulas/bailout was not a "good" option...it was just the best available. If Obama had said "screw the banks, let the economy fail" would you have voted for him?

Sometimes, you have to do unpleasant things because there really is no option - eg Bush invading Afghanistan. I didn't condemn Bush for that because I knew he had to do it. That's giving someone a fair chance.

The Bank Bailout/TARP was mainly Bush btw. But I was against that at the time as well. You just had to let what was going to fail, fail. Theory behind it is they are bad systems and eventually they will regress to their previous behavior and the situation will just be magnified. You make it seem that Obama "saved" the economy, when it was the bailout program enacted during the Bush presidency.

So when you say if Obama were to "do nothing", I'll just assume you're talking about his stimulus programs. I honestly think not much would be different other than maybe a few companies would have gone under/through restructuring. We would just have a few trillion dollars less debt. Maybe there would have been a slightly longer technical "recession" but in the big picture of things, the economy as a whole would be healthier.

Obama put forth an "economic stimulus" package (two actually) which seemed to have negligible effect, most of the economic gains were due to the FEDs quantitative easing program (x 3!!!!). Very dangerous as the price of goods will increase as inflation kicks in. This along with unsustainable and prolonged zero percent interest rates.

Basically when you normalize everything (stop printing money and then raise interest rates), it will be as if these bailout measures didn't help at all, except you are several trillion dollars further in debt as you have built up another asset bubble. That and hyperinflation, we're going to have a monetary crisis. Look what happened in the PIGS it'll be like that but worse.

If Obama opted to do nothing:

    1) We'd be $4T less in debt, and we'd be $10T less in debt after the next 4 years.
    2) The economy would have turned for the better 2 years sooner.
    3) The shape of the recovery would have been a V instead of an L.
    4) The economy would be adding more jobs than workers.
    5) What separates us from Greece, economically, is our interest rates are artificially low. You think they are going to stay low forever?

You may not remember, but there sure was a massive effort by democrats to delegitimize W's election in 2000. "Selected" they said. Assaulted the Supreme Court for voting 7-2 against Gore trying to steal the election. Etc.
