Denny, very pleased for you. Be careful with the Chantix. I had a claim where a guy on it (for 9 months) went into a sudden psychotic rage, stabbed his teenage son to death before taking his own life with the same knife. Messy drug. Anyway, KEEP AT IT!!
That's the kind of story that made me stop taking it after 10 days. I figure I'm well past the physical withdrawal part of quitting, and I'm somewhat used to finding something else to do when I'd normally take a smoke break. If I were having serious cravings, I'd stick with the Chantix for as long as it took.
Yeah, a savage beating, but in a completely different way. And let me tell you, I understand there were no complaints.
Yes, I wrote about it in the OP. The testimonials I read said it happened pretty much right away - within a day or three of starting the medication.
Denny... Thanks for bringing this up. I have smoked a pack a day for about 5 years. I actually quit for the first time 12 days ago. I cannot tell you why, but it was the easiest thing in the world for the first 9 days. I began wondering why I didn't do it sooner. And this was cold turkey. Anyways, Today was day 12. For the past couple of days I finally started freaking out and really feeling the want, the need. You know. I walked past my old can I used to throw my butts in and couldn't help but check for butts that still might have something to smoke. Anyways, today it got so bad, that I was either going to buy a pack of cigarettes or buy a pack of nicotine gum. I bought the gum. I figured I have made it 12 days. I should keep going without smoking. Thanks for sharing your experience. I have two coworkers who tried Chantix. Both quit because they wanted to kill themselves...hehe
When I quit (years ago) I carried bread sticks to hold and eat as I found the habit of having a cig in my hand was a problem. Keep going- you're on the downhill side of quitting.
Frankly, I really enjoyed it. It's not because it's a nasty habit that I'm quitting - it's just healthier. Like eating a better diet.
What everyone else has said. All of my grandparents died from smoking-related causes, to the point that I don't even have the urge to pick up a cigarette--though I have enjoyed a cigar a couple of times a year. I imagine it's difficult as hell, well done!
