Duncan was much younger for 4 of his 5 championships, the final one had Manu and Ginobili as well as Kawhi get MVP so I wouldn't consider Duncan leading the team to that title.

Jerry West wasn't older.

Russell your possibly correct 1 of his 12 rings was when he was older than Dame, although I'm not sure he was considered the leader of that team in his final season.

Kareem was I believe the 4th name.

Curry was the same age as Dame, so he wasn't older when winning a title.

To be fair, I believe he was referring to "leaders". Those guys all won titles, but were they the leaders of those teams at that point of their careers? Magic was the leader for Kareem by that point. TP and Kawhi were the ones winning Finals MVPs at the end, and I'm way too young to remember who was on West's late career title teams.

Dirk was for sure the leader of his, but again, the guys that were leaders that late in life....none of them were under 6'6".

 

so the restrictive template for a championship has 2 components: age and being over 6'6.

I know another restrictive template was a championship team needed 2 all-stars on the roster. Of course, Denver just adjusted the parameters of that template

 

Maybe Dame isn't the "leader" if we get Zion and he is healthy Zion will likely get more first team votes than Dame... Dame will likely be 1b like Kareem. LeBron winning the title at 35 seems to be overlooked.

 

It's all bullshit. If Dame is playing at the level he was playing at this last year and has a good to great supporting cast around him, he can easily be the best player on a championship team. Getting that good to great supporting cast won't be easy but that has nothing to do with Dame's age or height.
