There's too much money and not enough talent in free agency this coming year. That alone guarantees JJ is going to get paid ... a lot!

Agree. I don't think teams are looking at him as a star who will average a double double or change a team around. But he is a hustle guy who is young, can rebound and is still developing each year . . . he will be overpaid.

He wouldn't be the first couple choices though. Milsap would likely get more (not to say he won't be overpaid too).

I think this summer's FA signings will be interesting. I actually wouldn't be surprised to see teams start showing restraint. The Rudy Gay Trade could have some influence on future contracts - if MEM can't trade Gay for anything solid then I think teams will be scared of creating contracts that nobody wants to trade for. In the past that was never a concern because SO MANY teams had bad contracts that they could just shuffle them around and use them to make lop-sided trades. But if we start to see that teams aren't getting any value in return for "good players with bad contracts" then that could makes GMs more conservative in what they offer.

And whoever said something to the effect of Hickson/LMA being our starting front-court for the foreseeable future - I'm with you, that's a recipe for perhaps a good regular season record but not much else. I still think that we have to be open to the idea of trading LMA as he would be the player that would bring the most back. If you can get a legit C and a 6th man that could give us some depth which we badly need. The risk is that if Hickson signs elsewhere then we're looking for a PF. Luckily there are a LOT of PFs in the league - we could take another swing at Millsap if Hickson leaves.

buncha weird stuff going on in this thread

people saying trade hickson--he isnt going to waive his no trade, complete waste of breath even typing such a thing

and unless there are some super secret stats someone invented yesterday hickson is a net neutral player at worst...an average starting center, and a few years from his prime...is this such a bad thing?

the "we must have all stars at every position!" crowd is entertaining, but misguided

the big market has alot of options, but if the chicken littles predict someone blowing away jj hickson with a huge offer, let them decipher that with their junior nostradamus decoder ring

That would be nice if teams would start paying players what they're worth and nothing more. You "may" be on to something with the pendulum swinging back that way.

Pau Gasol will be traded for Josh Smith in a package deal by trade deadline.
