Here is some stuff from Quick questioning Powell. This is what I am seeing out there also. Especially not a lot of player movement and an uncertainty what to do next. In retrospect it seems it might have been better to just try to change the defense and maybe try to introduce a little wiggle now and then to the offense.
"All the unsure passes, and all the standing around made me wonder if the Blazers actually know the plays. So, I asked Norman Powell if he thought the team knew the plays — not because I think Powell is at fault, but he was the sacrificial lamb who had to address the media afterward. The starting guard didn’t give an optimistic response. 'Um … I think we can get better,' Powell said. 'I think guys know the plays, I think sometimes the pace and execution, is a problem, is an issue. Not doing our cuts as hard, not looking at every cut, looking at every option within every play kind of slows us down, eats up the shot clock. I think when it comes to the plays, it’s just executing and how hard we are running …'

I told him I asked the question because there appeared to be a lot of standing around, with no cutting or screening. He paused. “I think a lot of that is … I don’t know, man,” Powell said, clearly exasperated. “I can’t … I … I really don’t have a good answer for you right now, man, to be honest with you. I’m frustrated.”

when it's Simons or CJ or Powell or Nance bringing the ball down and initiating the offense, a good chunk of the shot clock is gone before Portland even gets into their sets and there is misfire & confusion a lot of the time. Meanwhile, Dame is playing "off the ball". Taking the ball out of the hands of the only floor general they have was a dumb idea from the beginning and it hasn't sure as hell hasn't got smarter as the season has progressed

I think that was the biggest mistake on offense that Billups has made. He apparently looked at the rotation and concluded there were several other competent and willing passers even though none had never displayed that skill. Or maybe, his biggest mistake was implementing 100% of his offense all at once. Maybe he should have gone piecemeal on implementation. Do 30% at first and see if it works before changing up more

Who knows, but maybe he threw them all into the fire to see what they could do that fit how he wants the style to be. Be seeing for himself, that there are none outside of Dame, it creates a very clear, personal picture for what he tells Cronin the team needs.

Agreed: you might look at it as a "Dame or Billups - pick one" issue.
If you wanted to maximize Dame, you should've hired D'Antoni. I would've liked to see the guy who could turn even Jeremy Lin into a star get his hands on Dame. (Of course, with the Dame of this season, it might've been an epic car crash)
But no, we went with the super-raw rookie who had never even coached Summer League. Who is now bitching about just about every player on the roster. You believe in him? Re-shape the roster. He would LOVE Ben Simmons, and would probably be a good coach for him. Trade Dame for Simmons, and let's go!

That's fine for a rebuilding team. But not for a "win-now for our ageing star" team.

I don't think Terry was the answer, but they kept him several years beyond us knowing that. They should have been searching for the next great coach on his staff and just kept Terry until they found the right guy.

And let Terry know that, and offer him a position in the front office once he found a great replacement.

You wouldn't have paid attention if I mentioned positives about Stotts....admit it......Dame was out early last season and CJ carried the team early before he got injured.....Stotts offense had flow I'm not seeing this season yet....we put up 125-30 pts night after night....since we didn't have defensive stoppers....Terry went with outscoring his opponent...I don't expect you to credit him for the success he had but I will. He's gone now so that's an argument you could put to rest Bones....you still talk about Stotts on most of your podcasts....he got in your head.....I like the guy...you hate him...it is what it is.....I'm not going to stop enjoying that era now but I've got some issues with this team this season so far...players sure don't seem as happy now as they have in the past....that's easy to see.....I cheer for Chauncey but he's not a finished product by any stretch as a head coach...the only way we climb out of a hole on offense this season is playing ISO ball in stretches then falling short....go figure ...as to the pick and roll we sure could use more of that now....it's what Dame and Nurk were good at....not clicking this season..it's going to take Chauncey time to implement a style of play but so far...it's not looking too good

That's part of the problem. Anyone who thought this was a 'win-now' roster, was quite confused.

    Just seeing this but…

The bold makes no damn sense.

He was ACTIVELY interviewing for jobs - and not getting them - might I add.

It wasn’t a, “oh, I’m just going to enjoy not being employed for a couple seasons” situation. He was actively pursuing positions. And some pretty lackluster positions as that.

He’s not a good coach. Good guy. Bad coach.
