The attractive part of acquiring Miller is that he can be waived immediately for salary relief. So if we wait until 2011-12 salaries are in effect Atlanta would lose that benefit. They would be less likely to do the trade, and with an extended lockout being very plausible, the deal would likely die before it could be completed.

If Atlanta did want to cut salary the Blazers would need to get the deal done before June 30th.

Well, i did figure out a way to break it into two trades (with the trade for Miller before the deadline) but I think all my deals with Hinrich included weren't valid since I think you can't combine the Bayless trade exception with a player to trade for a player. So better to stick with the easy trade of Camby, Miller,Matthews, Batum for Johnson and Smith. That's if we are assured of getting Miller back within a reasonable time.

Well... there's the rumored SA trade.

    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=6x965mh

    Out: Miller/Camby/Batum
    In: Parker/Jefferson/Pick

I like that one, but it leaves us pretty thin up front, so other trades would have to be done, or free agent signings. Parker brings championship experience and is within the same window as Crash. Not bad.

    There's the Baron rumor...
    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=6fh79xb

    Out: Miller/Camby/Batum
    In: Baron/Verajao/#4 pick

I like this one because it gives us some help up front and a high lottery pick to either trade for more veteran help, or use on a young point guard of our choosing. Maybe package the #4 and Rudy for the #2 and Flynn to take Williams as our SF of the future?

Holy ****--if we could basically turn Batum/Rudy into Derrick Williams, I-I-I...well, I don't know what I'd do.

Yeah, there's reports today that Cleveland is looking to add yet another lottery pick. Maybe we could pilfer a couple vets off their roster though? It sure seems like they're putting together a young nucleus, so guys like Varajao, Baron, Jamison don't make a lot of sense anymore.
