In 2 years he's a $15m expiring contract. Totally movable for something new. Even if we don't get Hibbert, you keep building the best team you can and keep on moving on. You may not be able to do it all in one week, but just keep on building and eventually you'll get there.
But isn't Batum a "meh" player as well? At least Iggy is a legit all-star calibur player right now, even if we only get 2 good years out of him, when his contract expires we'll be able to spend it on someone else, instead of being locked in Batum's contract.
Yes. Rondo won title in 2nd year. Rose got team to playoffs in 1st year. Will we win title in Lillard's first year? Prob not. But we could by his third year.
You get Iggy not because he is a lights out shooter but because after Lebron he is the best wing defender in the NBA. Guy is also a demon in the open court and while his PPG have dropped his shots taken have dropped as well.
I think Batum has been mis-used in Nate's system. He's only 23 -- 14/5/17PER; Iggy is expensive and his stats have declined since 2008. David Kahn probably has a similar conclusion considering he could just as easily offer up Williams for Iggy, but is going hard after Batum instead.
stats. come on. His PPG have declined, as well as FGA. I posted earlier how many career highs in many many numbers he had last year, so no. As for being expensive....so will Batum be if we match a 4 year deal for him. I also don't know if because Kahn is doing something is a good argument for what we should do.
As well as his PER. His playoff numbers also show a consistent decline. This guy is Gerald Wallace waiting to happen.
If we lose Batum, I'd rather have Williams or Turner for a lot less money. I guess I'm in rebuild mode. Lillard, Williams/Turner, Leonard, Barton, E-Will, that's a pretty good young cohort to start with.
As "the man" in Philly, he's been an atrocious playoff performer: 14.4 PER | 0.4 WS 10.6 PER | -0.1 WS 18.0 PER | 0.4 WS 14.4 PER | 0.2 WS 13.4 PER | 1.1 WS I'd want my franchise player putting up better numbers than that. And this guy is making LMA type of money. He's paid like a superstar but clearly can't carry his team and much more of a 3rd/4th wheel.
What if we get Indy into the mix - a 4-team trade that involves Indy getting Iggy and Portland securing Hibbert...and maybe a pick from one of the teams. We'll have plenty of cap space. Indy will get something in return for Hibbert and still be able to sign Kaman?? If such a deal could get done, ahead of July 11th (an unofficial agreement in place between all four teams, that is), we could then shift gears and focus our attention on finding a wing and/or shooting guard or both. We can look at amnestied players in the short run. All hope rests on Hibbert. Get this deal done and we can look at other pieces to the puzzle. But if Hibbert does not get done, then we're hooped...pardon the punn.
I'm just not as high on Iggy as a lot of Blazers fans are. Blazers fans can be pretty brutal on their own players, kind of a grass is always browner on our side of the fence thing. I think if Iggy had been a Blazer the last three years, a lot of fans would be roasting him, even more than they do LaMarcus and Batum.
