The timeline is right...the causality implied seems a little faulty, to me. I think it would be more reasonable to say that until Roy suffered a physical issue that couldn't be foreseen, the team was progressing, now the team is regressing. I think knee troubles could be foreseen, but Roy played through those at a star level. Ending up with no meniscus I would say was unpredictable. In addition, losing Oden so consistently has taken away a possible source of progression, but that didn't cause them to regress since they never really relied on him for wins in any season.
In light of Maxiep's "5 stages of grief" thread the other day, I find it sort of fascinating to see "bargaining" so cleanly illustrated. Not to rain on anybody's parade, but we're stuck with Roy for better or worse right now: A) he's a Base Year Compensation player which makes him even more difficult to move than normal and B) his contract is as bad (or worse) than Gilbert Arenas' deal. It will be at least a year or two post lockout before he's movable and even that depends on how expiring contracts are valued under the new CBA. If you want him gone, then it's only going to be through a medical retirement.
What if we offered Roy and Pryzbilla and Armon Johnson for Gilbert Arenas? I think we would also have to offer them a choice of Babbit, Elliot Williams or a draft pick. I would even be willing to give them a choice of two of those three, because i don't think roy fits with this team anymore and it's holding back the development of a new style of play. this would take some guts by Cho but i really think it's needed.
sounds like an emotional response from a staunch Roy fan. I'm sorry for Roy, the franchise, and the fans, but it is what it is, you are seeing it with your own eyes but choose not to believe it, it's hard for me as well to believe how fast he has deteriorated, but I am not in denial and am trying to be realistic. We are in a very difficult situation and there is no easy way out, as has been stated before the new CBA might offer us some type of "out", we will just have to see. Roy needs to see less playing time IMO.
Not really. It sounds more like somebody using sarcasm to say that, with or without national TV exposure, teams are well aware of Roy's diminished capacity and balky knees.
First time I've disagreed with a Nikolokolus take in a long, long time. A player's performances on national TV affect his trade value disproportionately.
