By filing the case preemptively there is no couple who faced discrimination to go before cameras, make their argument. Get sympathy and support. The only face seen was the bigot.

No. That is a specific hate message. A couple getting married is not.

 

I disagree. In the eyes of Westboro Baptist Church, it is how God sees gay people. It's not a specific hate message. In the minds of some, two people of the same sex being married is a sin against God. In other words, a specific hate message, no matter their love for one another.

Another example is what if someone took a pig into a kosher or halal butcher and demanded they butcher it? Shouldn't they have the right to decline the business? And butchering isn't even considered an art form as is cake decoration.

A business can decide what to sell or not. What they sell must be available to all customers who pay for it. No Kosher butcher sells pork. But they are required to sell kosher chicken to any customer.

It was a great exchange of opinions and your response was made less impactful by the insult.

I'm not judging you, simply making an observation. You made an incredible counterpoint that anybody who is reading (with an open mind) would have considered heavily without the insults. The insults make your position seem more emotional, thereby less grounded in logic.

Especially if the person has spent time reading maxiep's incredibly well reasoned and respectful posts for the last 20+ years.

All of our civil rights are attacked the same way (frankly, often FAR more harshly) daily in this very forum.

It's a conversation that obviously needs to be had, or your rights wouldn't be in question.
