We need to pass a law and call it the "Mind your own fucking business" law...it should be illegal to attack anyone for being who they want to be as long as they aren't harming others with their choices.

They will do this profane hateful cake for a 10 year old, but won't do a cake for a gay couple. Wow.

This is how all laws should work. And it should apply to police as well. If people aren't harming others then they should be left the alone.

The Real Men on Fox "news" are unhappy Megan Rapinoe is defending the rights of trans athletes. Jesse Waters mansplained that as a lesbian she is sympathetic to trans people but she is destroying women's sports, which I am sure he never watches. He then claimed he has done more for women's sports, I guess by virtue of having a penis, then a superstar female athlete who devoted her entire life to women's athletics.

That Michigan hairdresser who posted she would not serve LGBTQ customers?
First she got roasted on line.
Then the supplier who sold her products announced they no longer would provide to her as they support inclusion.
Then state of Michigan launched investigation into possible violation of state anti discrimination law.
She has been reduced to posting on QAnon and conspiracy sites, posing with Trump banner.

So a girl lost her mind, her business, and now potentially her freedom. I don't know. Not really getting much out of it over here.

No, violation of civil rights law is a civil, not criminal, matter. She won't go to jail.

A fat fine and no business to pay it off, subsequent bankruptcy sounds like a loss of freedom. Could be the millennial in me saying that though.

She had the right to say that stuff/believe it, but not the right to be free of consequences of her actions/behavior/words.

Someone who goes deep into the schizo Qanon stuff is probably mentally ill. How many people became estranged from their families and reality during the election fraud, shadow prez stuff? I feel sympathy for her in that way.

It will really suck for her, yes. This is why we need UBI desperately. Because she just found out she can’t make it as a hairdresser whose one defining feature is vocal homophobia.

Though I imagine if she markets herself well enough on QAnon sites she will be able to find an equally homophobic clientele. I’m not terribly worried about her chances, even though I agree she will be financially harmed by her own actions.

And it’s not like she’s the only one out there; my hairdresser at Ulta believed in white genocide but didn’t tell me until the fourth (and last) time I went to her. I think because I’m white she felt safe.

Exactly. Free speech doesn't mean free of consequences.

I'm not going to word this correctly, but I feel like you sort of agree with me that a mentally ill small business owner getting stepped on by the state and to an extent, corporations, makes you a little queasy. Even when the symptoms of their derangement show in espousing low status, deplorable political views. I wouldn't want to associate with someone like that, or the people popping champagne bottles when their lives publically fall apart. As usual, I'm homeless on this issue.

I don’t assume she’s mentally ill. I do assume she’s a human being. I don’t fault any person who decided to sever ties with her over her views. I do acknowledge that she has put herself in a precarious financial situation. I believe this came entirely through her own actions. I do not attribute the reaction to some sort of structural oppression of homophobes. I think that is a ludicrous claim to make. I would want her to be supported by a social safety net, and I am frustrated such a thing does not exist.

I didn't make any such claim that homophobes are oppressed, to be clear. I agree with you that it's unfortunate that her only method of recovery is buying a 4chan ad banner or begging for money on Gab.

It is unfortunate. It sadly parallels the pleas for help I see on tumblr from queer people driven from their homes by homophobic parents or new transphobic laws. In both cases, the communities (such as they are) have to substitute for viable social support which our government will never give.

She could have been inclusive. She could have said nothing. She chose to publicly proclaim her prejudice and intent to discriminate. I see no evidence of mental illness. Rather, I see someone who thought she would get publicity and be seen as righteous and "anti woke". Trans people are the focus of full out war by the right. Hundreds of anti trans laws. Book bans. Demanding military kick them out. They are the victims, not her.

She is a victim of her own stupidity and the times that she is living in. The idea of this goofy lady doing background checks to make sure her clients aren't gay is absurd. It was posturing, the same type of suicidal bravado that caused Jan 6. Trump loves to lead sick people into a barfight and slip out the side exit as they get their asses kicked. It's just gross to me, celebrating when these time bombs explode. Mostly, they just blow their own lives apart. I also see no reason not to assume that a woman who believed Trump has the nuclear football and that JFK Jr faked his own death is fucked in the head.
