Honestly, now that Mixum is gone I'm the biggest asshole here so I would have to say I have the greatest chance of being banned next. And because I am such an asshole if anyone posts someone else's name I will edit your post, delete that name and replace it with my own.
I think Mixum sensed the end was near so he went out with a bang at Maxiep. I must be weird. I have never even looked into how the Ignore function works. I guess I tolerate everyone. (Rarely, I have to uphold my macho reputation and be a man and pretend to be tough, but if you don't know I'm faking, well, I do.) Cynicism is funny. Twisting everything into a negative is akin to twisting the physical world into mathematical formulae. I enjoy being showered by such genius. Some personalities are sensitive to being offended. Some are sensitive to being bored. Conformity vs. creativity. Encountering people who offend you is a cost of avoiding boring people. The reverse: Being with boring people is the result of avoiding being offended. Me, I avoid boredom, so I expect unusual people, so I'm not bothered.
I would agree with papag that referring to another poster as their real name without their consent, or unless they have it in their user name, is very poor form. I am not a fan of Mixum, and ignore him every place I run across him, but there is no reason to use his name. He signed up as Mixum, not as *realname*mixum. There are many reasons a person would do this, and it should be their choice to protect their identity in the forums they visit. Using his real name when addressing him without his consent is, in my opinion, an attempt to bait him, irritate him, and at the very worst (with him or any others this may happen to) an attempt to intimidate. I would hope such incidents would be addressed by private staff discussions in the future, as it is a very, very fine and uncomfortable line to tip-toe or cross.
I agree to an extent. However, I could see if maxiep had somehow hacked his computer or something to get his name, versus, if I gave out information that, say...I'm bald. I have a sports radio show in Portland. And I have my own foundation. If people started saying my real name, is it right to be offended?
I completely agree with you and I brought this up with the rest of the S2 staff. If you see someone's personal information being posted on here please feel free to PM any of us.
Mixum was suspended/banned. Well I'll say it . . . grow up people. I'm in the minority thinking are you kidding me banning a personality like mixum from a forum like this. (If he was banned for personal attacks, then there is double standard being applied to all this.) Mixum knows the Blazers and probably follows them closer than some posters on this board. Apparently his posts and personality is too hard for some to deal. His troll like style pisses off posters and makes this board unenjoyable for them. So moral majority wins out. I understand that is how society works, still doesn't seem right to me. And understand I was all for banning bendavis. In fact there are others who pop in and know nothing about the Blazers, posts in all caps and spew out shit and throw out racial and below the belt personal attacks. But mixum, posters sought him out after big games. Posters would remember and cite what he would say. He would generate activity when the board was dead . . . he has been a colorful part of the Blazer posting for years. Mistake in my eyes.
Mixum relished the bolded part. He wanted it, and that is exactly why he posted what he did. That is trolling, which proved that his intentions weren't "honorable".
Safety, even when on the internet, is always very important. If someone does not give a consent to use their name, you should not use it. People will drop random bits of information here and there, and maybe it will slip their mind what they've mentioned before. It is very unlikely they've done such so someone else may piece it all together and figure out their 'real' identity. At that point you reach a very scary line, because if you start addressing their name without their consent, what is to stop you from mentioning their spouse, or their kids, the block they live on. It is just a precedent that should not be set, in my opinion.
I find it cowardly of posters to dig up personal information on the guy, and posting it without his permission. I guess since that sort of thing is cool now, I'll start researching some posters, and posting their real identities without their own permission.
IMO, using his real name w/out his consent is the ultimate act of being a troll. Those who do it should be ashamed of themselves, and since that is now a standard here, I'm considering allocating some time and resources to 'out' other posters. Plenty of people here already know my name (hint, it isn't 'Grant', dumbass), and if they start using it on this board, I'd probably act just like MIXUM does.
"Standard" because a single poster did it? Overreact much? Did somebody post an avatar of a Nerf gun again?
I actually think that you're more trollish than MIXUM. I can't remember the last basketball related thread that you started, and looking at your posting history, you're as involved in the poster-based drama on this board as any other poster.
To be a moderator means to sit around debating the meaning of written rules? Bunch of lawyers or moralists. No wonder people quit. Every one of those rules is so ambiguous that if you enforce them word for word you won't have a board. I hope you recognize them as mere guidelines, and not very good ones at that. Simple common sense and the survival of the board are the only absolutes. A paragraph on the philosophy of the board would be better. Describe how this board is different from others. You can cuss, you can post links, pictures, and videos, you communicate with moderators all the time in posts, you can complain about deletions or others being banned, you can post opinions on the board itself, you can argue with the owner...The linkable options on each page are amazing You take these for granted, but you can't do ANY of them on the ESPN board. Speaking of them, I see some links are now allowed, but still not competitors' links, and for over a year there, any link caused your whole post to be deleted, and often the thread went down with it. The search function was down for a year, signatures aren't enabled, each user's home page gets ruined every time they upgrade the software so no one personalizes their home page anymore, etc. etc. It would be beneath me to compare S2 to ESPN. (Sly smile.) Just write a paragraph on how this board differs from others, in both what's allowed and software mechanics. You could have a thread in which everyone evolves this very short essay. The pretense of unenforceable rules is a figleaf.
What value do you bring to this board? Read your own posting history. Threads you've started on the Blazer forum... http://sportstwo.com/search.php?searchid=578048 Your posts on the Blazer board... http://sportstwo.com/search.php?searchid=578049 A few "me-too" posts, and a lot of drama directed at posters.
