I'm tempted to actively root against the Lakers at this point.

Where did I say I wasn't sticking with the team or not watching them? I've been a fan for over 20 years. Been with them even during the years we MISSED the playoffs. I rooted for them on the last day knowing we were not going any further after our 82 games were up.

Really, statements on the web don't prove that Im a bandwagon fan and it IRKs me when people say that I am just because they misinterpret what I say.

Lakers for life. Bottomline. Believe it or not.</div>

I never said you were a bandwagon fan … as a matter of fact, re read my posts ....I didn’t single out anyone .. If u didn’t say anything about giving up on them because they’re losing, then it wasn’t directed at you …

I think I'll go ahead and butt-in to this thread.

It's not about giving up on them because they're LOSING, it's because they are not showing any heart out there or showing ANY desire to win.

It's like, okay, we're fans right.....and we live and breathe Lakers, but it's not like we get paid to be a fan, I'm a fan because I love the Lakers.

But how do you it makes me feel when I re-arrange my schedule to catch the Lakers game EVEN though I have DVR to record it for me. When these guys stop showing that they CARE, I was about ready to stop showing that I care too.

They're professional athletes getting paid millions. I want to see these guys out there playing like it's a playoff game EVERY night. Right now, only a few people to me have shown that they have heart and value being out there on the court; those people would be Kobe, Turiaf, and Sasha (hate him or not, doesn't matter)

I mean for God's sake, how can we be fair-weather fans when we are active users on a damn Lakers forum? If it makes you feel better to call other people fair-weather fans, then by all means go ahead.

Fair-weather fans in my book are the ones who call the Lakers championship contenders when they win, but when they lose, they talk sh!t about every single player and just start talking down about the team in general. I've seen this COUNTLESS times at LG and CL, NOT at JBB.

Say what you say, but I know Trench, Mamba, Brian, and the rest of the guys here are no where near fair-weather.......frustrated? yes, but not fair-weather.

    My $0.02 cents.

I still watch every game and deal with the anxiety and hardache the Lakers have been dishing out the last couple of months. I can understand not wanting to support the team because a lot of the players aren't giving full effort, but I would never want the Lakers to tank and miss the post season.

Playoff experience is invaluable for any franchise and its players. Getting into the post season gives you a much better idea of where your team is compared to the elite teams in the NBA. If the Lakers get swept in the postseason, it will be a strong signal to ownership that they need drastic changes.

Laker fans need to keep in mind, PJax uses the regular season to plot and plan for the playoffs. He will compile everything the team has done up to this point and simplify a plan of attack against their first round opponent. This is the time of the season PJax really earns his coin.

In last year's playoffs he came up with the perfect strategy to beat Phoenix. The Lakers almost pulled it off, but they lost why? LACK OF EXPERIENCE.

<div class="quote_poster">Mamba Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I don't know, I just don't think making the playoffs and being swept (if that does happen) would help this team anymore than a draft pick. The Suns are one hell of a team, I just don't see us being able to hang with them. They're so much better than last year, and we've gotten worse as the season progressed. I don't think, in this case, there is a big difference between 7th, 8th, and 9th.</div>
Think of it this way. When you end up as a lottery team, you go into the next season striving to make the playoffs. When you've made the playoffs and been outed after the first round, you're expectations for the next season are to advance to the next round. It makes a huge difference with the type of environment in a team's clubhouse.

<div class="quote_poster">notMuchgame Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">If you're telling me you'll only watch them when they're winning, they you are a fair weather / bandwagon fan. That's not namecalling, that's just what it is.

95% + of sports franchises dont win championships mutliple times a decade. Look at the Warriors, look at the Sonics, look at the Nuggets, look at T-wolves, look at the Kings, look at the Trailblazers etc etc etc....heck look at the Cubs ... do they have fans? hell yeah, and they dont win squat ever ... they are what the 2006-2007 lakers are every year. Their fans go through what laker fans are currently going through for their entire lives. Yet they are still real fans, they still watch as many games as they can. So lakers fans have been spoiled by success, it doesnt mean when success doesn't come u abandon ship and when the time finds sucess, u somehow find yourself back. That mess just irks me ... I've been a die-hard Dodger fan and I haven't seen a playoff win in over 19 years. Yet come summer time, u slit my wrist and Dodger blue will come out of my veins. If the Lakers are 8th seed for the next two decades, I will be there rooting for the upset every year and I will watch them fail every year if I have to

If you're going to abandon ship as the team is entering the playoffs, then i'm sorry, you're not really a fan.</div>

I think you misunderstood the intent of this thread. I made it not because I'm a fairweather fan and only support the Lakers when they're winning, but because I understand that maybe missing the playoffs would be better for us in the long-run. Seriously, not once did I say I'm going to stop watching Laker games now that they're struggling. There are no fairweather fans on this forum, just people who are rational and people who aren't.

I agree with you 110%, PJ is the kind of coach who is willing to sacrifice a few losses in the regular season just to make us a better team in the playoffs.

Phil Jackson will teach in the regular season and will coach in the Playoffs.
