Oregon is the center of the universe by the way...Los Angeles is the bus station of the universe

Joking aside, these issues are very prominent to southern states. Even Chicago and Detroit are having a big problem with illegal immigrants.

I'm all in favor of shutting down sweatshops, human trafficking and corrupt business practices in America..I think we all are. I'm saying the blame is within our country, not threatened by poor people trying to survive.

The major issue I have with immigration are getting the criminals out for good and expediting and simplifying the existing immigration policy. We need them tax payers as soon as possible.

When my wife was waiting for her final citizenship interview in Portland there was an elderly winery owner from Southern Oregon there applying for work permits for skilled farmers that she was hiring. Wonderful woman, fluent in Spanish. Talked to me for an afternoon about how these two families were indespensable to her business...they were the best talent she could find for her winery. There are millions of good immigration stories in this country.

Legal immigration is not the problem! Why does everyone spin this issue? The LEGAL immigration is absolutely wonderful. The illegal immigration is cancerous.

You have to consider the source with undocumented people are trying to live anywhere...a lot are escaping, refugees from atrocities and you want to send them back to war torn or corrupt homes where they may not survive. This is a fact...not every illegal here is here to scam the american taxpayer or run cocaine cartels. Our system cannot turn away the folks truly in need because of the criminal element that takes advantage of it. We have legal citizens here who milk the welfare system as well. That's a welfare problem and they need to address it in house.

I understand and respect that, but you must have a order in place to stop the ones that abuse. It's a unfortunate evil, but it is very necessary. Look at the epidemic Europe is having right now with their refugees issue?

We buy homes, build fences or walls to protect our property. Have doors and locks. You just cannot leave your door wide open and assume that all have good will. We lock our doors for a reason.

Racial profiling that comes with illegal suspicions is cancerous..are they also going after Canadians who drive across the border and just stick around? Answer..probably not. The reason we're spinning this is in reaction to a very public figure making very dangerous statements in regards to the immigration issue. Biggest political red flag I've seen in ages...I remember trying to figure out what a North Vietnamese or South Vietnamese looked like...imagine trying to the entire hispanic community of the United States...wow..just wow..what a mess that would set back civil rights to the stone ages.

Considering this is a nation of (mostly....I didn't forget about folks like Santee Sioux) immigrants and we are virtually all descendants of immigrants, I'd find this whole thread amusingly ironic if it wasn't such a hot button issue with serious consequences all the way around. What, just because a few centuries have passed we've lost our collective memories? Who helped build the railroads because "real" Americans didn't want to do the work? The lowly Irish and the Chinese. Who fought in place of "real" Anericans (who could afford to pay a substitute) in the Civil War? The lowly Irish. Who did the menial work that "real" Americans refused to do? The Chinese, the Japanese, the Irish, the blacks and the Mexicans. Who was the first to get shit on when the financial panics and recessions hit. Every race but the white one. We, as a country, would be nowhere near as far along in terms of "progress" if it wasn't for immigrants. One has to wonder what all of us might be doing right now and where we might be doing it if a wall (or other similar obstacles) had been in place throughout the last 2 centuries....and while I'm at it, criminal elements can enter this country just as easily as law abiding immigrants, perhaps even more easily, given their potential resources and connections. This issue is as old as our country itself and nothing has really changed. Except that America has gone from being a refuge from tyranny and despair, to being an exclusive club that wants to play the "I got mine, now fuck you" game. I wouldn't have a house to lock or a yard to fence if someone had told my ancestors to get lost. And neither would you Mags. I don't have any real good answers, but denying other humans an opportunity to pursue a better future is bullshit. How many potential Einsteins, Edison's or Bill Gates of other races are we squelching by denying them the resources available in the US to achieve that status? As riverman correctly points out, the problem is in house. We need to quit blaming the immigrants for the problems we "real" Americans created and, for a wide variety of reasons, deliberately refuse to solve.

Pick either side. If you can't figure out how someone could feel differently you are either stupid or pretending to be.

I can not understand how anyone can be for more immigration without one very important question being answered. How many poeple should this country have?

Everyone knew 600 million people was too many for China and China is larger than the US. China took drastic measures to reduce the population growth and reached 1.5 billion people before they got it under control. The US is on the path to reaching 600 to 800 million before the end of this century. Who the hell thinks that is good? Why the hell are we doing this?
All I read to support this free for all immigration is complete feel good shit. The one about getting more people to paying social security taxes is a complete joke. You don't fix a Ponzi scheme by enrolling more pawns on the bottom rung.

Sadly, nobody right now but I'll vote against Trump in the end if I can't have a candidate I can get optimistic about.

We keep people alive in this country that should be dead...it's a new trend and immigration doesn't dent the number of folks we have hooked up to life support or on 24 hr caregiving programs..we just won't let folks die here if they can be propped up and feed the big prescription drug cartel that's raking in billions..fly over this country and we are not even close to being overcrowded compared to India or China..

You sir are ignoring the facts. We are on track to exceed the population of where China was when everyone knew it was too many.
The fly over is not all that desirable as a place to live otherwise we would not cluster on the coast like we do.

You also ignored the salient question, How many?
