Following up the prior post, the reason the Bulls wouldn't (not couldn't) take back someone in a Ben sign and trade is that they'll have, at most, a couple million in wiggle room around the LT, and the MLE is probably twice that amount. I think the only way it can be worked is to trade away Kirk/Thomas/Salmons etc to a team under the cap. Minny might qualify if we're not all living in grass huts and caves by then.
The bulls could also draft guys and stash them overseas. But I hear you on the grass huts and caves. Seems like the world is falling down around us right now.
Really? Hollinger said that Pax wanted to trade Hinrich for expirings rather than trade Thabo but couldn't get it done. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=hollinger_john&page=TradeGrades-090218
Every single local report (and McHale amongst others) said that was never going to happen. Minnesota, and only Minnesota, proposed a deal that would make him a salary dump and the Bulls of course turned it down. There was nothing more to it then a proposal-no talks were ever had. And Thabo wasn't just dumped we got a first round 20 something pick for him, and that's what he's worth and maybe even more then he's worth in most peoples eyes.
I know right. Like he's going to call him a selfish ball hog that's all about getting his own, and then thrown in some comments about his bad defense and horrible ball handling skills.
Links, please? The only Minnisota deal that was described that I saw had Cardinal in it and Cardinal is on the books for next year.
KC's belief is that it could be Hinrich that is gone this summer. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sport...lls-larry-hughes-trade-knicks,0,2809280.story
Rumors were swirling earlier in the day that Hinrich could be headed to the Wolves for Jason Collins and Brian Cardinal, but the Bulls reportedly rejected the trade, which would have been a straight salary dump of Hinrich. He appears set to remain in the crowded Bulls back court, barring new developments. Feb. 19 - 9:03 am et Captain Kirk Hinrich is, after the Bulls rejected a salary-dump proposal from the Timberwolves. The other talk is Kirk Hinrich to Minnesota in a salary dump for somebody who won’t be here next season. An expiring contract for an expiring team. Hinrich's superb play came on the eve of the 2008-09 season trading deadline amidst rumors that Hinrich might be traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves for some expiring salary detritus. The Bulls weren't interested, and with an excellent chance to make the playoffs now with the acquisition of former Bull Brad Miller and swingman John Salmons for Drew Gooden and Andres Nocioni, it seems highly unlikely the Bulls will make a move with Hinrich. KC Johnson also said the deal would be a salary dump if the bulls went through with it. Which is why they didn't. He's got value not just on this team, but around the league.
yeah, he might be, we all knew that. He's no salary dump like Денг Гордон was saying. That's all I was trying to say.
The first link names Cardinal who isn't expiring. None of the other links even mention specific names. Not convincing.
I have no idea what you're talking about. The Bulls turned down the one trade that everyone views as a salary dump. No more proof necessary that they would of if they could of gotten rid of him.
It's not that difficult. Hollinger said the Bulls wanted to but couldn't dump Hinrich for expiring contracts. It seems that you dispute this but you can't even give details of or a link to any *rumored* deal for expiring contracts if you exclude Cardinal's deal which ain't expiring. Cardinal gets paid this year and next.
cardinal/collins/mccants all have shorter contracts then kirk. they are all "expiring contracts" before 2011 two of them expire after next year and the other after 2010. that is payroll relief. so if all they cared about was dumping him for "dog food" they would have. how come everyone who wrote about this deal considers cardinal/collins to have a expiring deal except for you?
As far as I can tell only you and Steve Rosenbloom have redefined expiring contracts. Maybe the Bulls official mouthpiece\blogger, too. Those 2 ain't exactly up for Pulitizers for this year's work.
Here's just a few others: Sam Smith Hinrich's superb play came on the eve of the 2008-09 season trading deadline amidst rumors that Hinrich might be traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves for some expiring salary detritus. The Bulls weren't interested, and with an excellent chance to make the playoffs now with the acquisition of former Bull Brad Miller and swingman John Salmons for Drew Gooden and Andres Nocioni, it seems highly unlikely the Bulls will make a move with Hinrich. ESPN Marck Stein Minnesota, according to NBA front-office sources, has strong interest in Hinrich and is pursuing the 28-year-old to address a void at lead guard that hasn't been filled by Randy Foye (whose success this season came after a shift to shooting guard) or the undependable Sebastian Telfair. The Wolves also have two expiring contracts of their own (Jason Collins and Rashad McCants) that they're prepared to shed. KC Johnson On the other, a source close to Kirk Hinrich said the Bulls rejected a salary-dump proposal from Minnesota that would have netted them the expiring contract of Jason Collins and one more season of Brian Cardinal. Dime Mag/Daily Herald According to the Daily Herald, the Bulls are also trying to trade Kirk Hinrich to the Timberwolves for the expiring contract of Jason Collins and some other undetermined player. Yahoo Sports The Wolves are intrigued with Hinrich’s ability to play the point and off-guard and see him as a good complement to Randy Foye. Collins and Cardinal have shorter-term contracts that bring Chicago payroll relief. Like I said practically every other person that wrote about this deal considers them as having expiring contracts cause they all expire before kirk. you're the only one defining it as "expiring next year or this year only".
Mark Stein didn't say that Minnesota offered expiring contracts for Hinrich. You got no link for KC. (Edit: Now that you do, it's clear that he doesn't consider Cardinal to be expiring. Thanks!) You are linking to Dime Magazine, not the Daily Herald. Yahoo Sports didn't say that Minnesota offered expiring contracts for Hinrich. Shorter <> Expiring. So it's you, Rosen who doesn't name names, Dime Mag and a guy on the Bulls payroll who doesn't name names. That's far from everyone. And far from solid.
All I can say to this is WOW. Minnesota offered 2 (maybe 3 in McCants) expiring contracts for Kirk and The Bulls turned it down. Nit pick all you want on terminology. I'm done. I'm also right.
It would have been a partial salary dump if it were Collins and Cardinal. Something like $6M in cap relief for next season. You guys are talking semantics, IMO. The consistent theme of all the stuff written is that the Bulls did in fact talk to Minny about trading Kirk, and one I posted or quoted even said that Pax took Hinrich aside and told him he was being discussed with both Minny and Portland. The bottom line is Pax wanted something more for Kirk, like maybe a draft pick, and Minny and Portland weren't willing to offer what Paxson wanted.
You are changing your argument. No one ever said Bulls were not offered shorter contracts or that some of the contracts offered expired this summer. Brian Cardinal is a shorter contract than Hinrich but it's not expiring. It saves less that $3M in salary for next season which isn't enough for us to sign Gordon and stay under the lux tax.
