<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Rick Carlisle got his "dream job" off to a successful start by surviving a wild finish in familiar surroundings.

Carlisle won his coaching debut with the Indiana Pacers as Jermaine O'Neal scored 22 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in an 89-87 victory over the Detroit Pistons.

Hired by Indiana on Sept. 2, the 42-year-old Carlisle was fired by the Pistons despite leading Detroit to back-to-back Central Division titles and 100 wins in two seasons. He had called the Pacers his "dream job" and was the hand-picked choice of team president and former Boston Celtics teammate Larry Bird.

Coincidentally, Carlisle's first game with the Pacers was in Detroit. Greeted with a standing ovation by the fans at The Palace at Auburn Hills, Carlisle also witnessed the raising of the Central Division championship banner. </div>
