That is interesting. I'm not very salary cap savvy...but my understanding is that if we didn't use the space this year we basically were going to lose it. So, it was a question of adding an asset, even if it wasn't a perfect fit, or give up any chance to use the cap space. ...I really need to learn more about how the cap works...anyone have suggested links that are good places to go to learn?
Could have used the cap anyway for an uneven trade - taking someone's expensive player (Say, Capt. Kirk for example) for a cheaper player (Say, Webster for example). I do not think they would have signed him if they did not think there is more to him than trade-bait.
