i5 for sure. If you want more beef after than then upgrade your video card, which you'll probably want to do anyway. Hp or Dell makes no difference, go with the best deal.
It's difficult for me to get out because I can use a cane for short distances and a walker for slightly longer distances but a wheel chair for prolonged walks or long distances. I need help buying a desk as well unless I could find one at Amazon.
2nd option, get a really beefy laptop and get a 2nd monitor for it. So in your office you will have dual monitors but you can take the laptop with you. Something like this would do everything you need it to. https://www.costco.com/dell-xps-15-...1650-ti---fhd+-display.product.100693036.html
In thin laptops like the XPS line - the i5 tend to run cooler than the i7. That's a consideration... FWIW - My outgoing machine is an i7 XPS13. I will likely replace it this weekend with an i5 Surface, as the 10 gen cpu in i5 form, notebook versions are probably as fast as the old i7 while being a lot cooler to run.
Lanny, I'm assuming you run Windows?...the reason I ask is that the new Macs with the new M1 processors might be an option.
I do run Windows. I'm not an Apple guy. I do love gravenstein apple sauce, apple pie, apple turnovers and gravenstein fried apple pies but that's it. Oh, maybe a good gravenstein apple tart. One thing I can't stand is buying an apple turnover and getting an apple sauce turnover. I want substantial chunks of fruit.
Couple of people suggesting an i5 in here. In 2017 I built a new PC around an i5-7600K (did not wind up overclocking). There are times where the PC does get bottlenecked by it. In hindsight I would have spent the extra $100-150 to go with an i7, but these instances are infrequent enough that I never upgraded. AMD are doing quite well right now with their latest processors, they are cheaper and generally as good or better than current gen Intel.
True story, I quit viewing porn about 7 or 8 years ago and as a side benefit my eyesight is returning. Oh wait, that's because I quit something else.
