thought I'd add this list https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_black_Academy_Award_winners_and_nominees
I've been binge watching Grey's lately. The main character is a white woman (Pompeo). There are three black actors who appear in most shows in the first few seasons (Webber, Baily, and Burke). There is a huge difference between an almost all black cast and a few black actors in a mostly white cast. Viola Davis is the bomb. I overlooked the show in making my observation. Scandal has a lot of white faces in the cast. Kerry Washington is the only black actor/actress to appear in all the episodes. Blackish is proof a black cast can make a quality modern sitcom. It's on my DVR and we watch every episode.
m my point was that Oscar voting is a popularity contest just like the allstar game..Kobe's not an allstar this season but he'll start the game...Jeremy Lin started on the back of a zillion Chinese votes although he wasn't the best pt guard in the east by a long shot
You can't compare early Grey's to where it is now. In addition to Bailey and Webber, there are now Avery and his mother, Bailey's husband, Stephanie, and Pierce, along with the Hispanic Callie Torres. Trust me, it's basically an even split now, with most of the fictional hospital's management being people of color as well. Much more diverse now than you're giving it credit for. And honestly, I think a show like Grey's featuring black actors in roles that don't actually rely on their blackness is much more significant than a show like Empire which features black actors specifically because of the fact that they're black.
Suuure. Black people don't like hip hop, they like "How to Save a Life." The point of a show like Empire is that it is something that black people can identify with. Few have the opportunity to get a medical degree and become surgeons. Grey's is still about Meredith Grey. I remember the Cosby Show was #1 on NBC for a few years. It got a lot of flack for being an unrealistic view of black reality.
I should put you on ignore for this but I don't have anyone on ignore. The last time was Mags for his idiotic bananas crap. So it's rare.
Lol for the Tyler Perry comment? Dude, sometimes you gotta take one for the team and take your wife to a movie she wants to see that you don't.
I was fucking with you and I completely understand the wife thing. 15 years later my wife says I pick wayyyy better movies but she still wants to go see stupid shit. Oh well, waddya gonna do?
I still can't believe Undercover Brother didn't win an Oscar. The Academy is so frickin' racist! It was the coolest and hippest movie in years!
I guess that this can go here now: http://rare.us/story/as-critics-roa...-bet-and-black-history-month-for-this-reason/ If you don't know who Stacey Dash is: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001107/
