Shit is going down in Iran. Not sure what exactly, I guess they killed some lady for not wearing the thing muslim women wear?

I was just reading about this. It looks like they have shut down access to Whatsapp, Instagram, and other services in Tehran and Khurdistan. 9 reported killed so far with street rallies in 15+ cities.

You can't stop progress.

Changing this thread title to 'Mahsa Amini' would probably be appropriate. Just throwing it out there.

And to think it was the U.S. who helped these religious zealots gain power in Iran.
This is not true....quite the opposite actually...they took power the same way the Bolsheviks took power in Russia against the Czar....we just backed the Shah who was the guy who lost his country..Iran's revolution was of their own design...credit where credit is due...America was broke and struggling under Jimmy Carter

Though, the world would be a much better place had we followed the path Jimmy Carter wanted...

You could say this about Hillary Clinton as well.
I don't think so. She wanted the world that gave us Trump. She was bought and paid for, and her path would have led us to Trump or DeSantis eventually.

None of her policies actually solve anything.

Blatantly untrue and revisionist history. Carter helped oust the Shah and bring in Khomeini when the Shah wanted a better deal for the country's oil.

Her foreign diplomacy and predictions about Putin were spot on...I'm not a Hillary fan but her foreign policy is not what gave us Trump...her lame campaign gave us Trump and her sleazy campaign against Bernie.

The Shah was always Americas Iranian puppet...the last thing Carter wanted was to bring in Khomeini....Ross Perot actually hired his own team to extract his employees from Iran....they just got the money back we froze with the Obama deal from that whole fiasco. The Shah was exactly like Marcos from the Philippines who fled to the states with the countries treasury and bought condos in New York and mansions in Hawaii.

Same with many others, until they're not. They threw him under the bus when he wanted to renegotiate. Officials in the Carter administration admitted their role in the coup to overthrow the Shah years later.

I honestly don't think foreign policy has been much of a world problem. Us not doing what we should and showing the correct path (including tarrifs on damaging products and services) has been a huge part of the problem.

That would be the best foreign policy.

Yeah I was like, wait what? The Shah was the guy America had put up in Iran, and he was the one who was deposed of during the Iranian revolution with the whole Iranian hostage scandal at the end of the Carter administration.

I have actually never heard this before, can you elaborate or share some more information on this? I am going to do some internet sleuthing now.

This does not support your previous post...for one thing Iran under Khomeini had American hostages that we had to extract ..that's not encouraging good relations with America by any stretch. We froze their payment for arms that we never delivered as well, which was the money Obama did his deal with them around. I'm sure Khomeini tried to earn the diplomatic status and respect he thought he deserved but we saw him the same way we see Kim Jong Un today...a fundamentalist dictator...it was an interesting article to read though..no doubt clandestine talks were carried out and probably still are today. I'll agree to disagree with your take on it otherwise..Carter was not propping up the Mullah.

Did Carter help Khomeini?

According to the report, in turn, Carter and his administration helped Khomeini and made sure that the Imperial Iranian army would not launch a military coup.

Did Carter help Khomeini?

It's widely known within the Iranian/Persian community. Having grown up in that community, I would know. Khomeini flipped on Carter once he took power, but before that, Carter's administration definitely helped Khomeini gain power. I think there's even a quote of him admitting he messed up as he was initially an ally.
