Like I said, not the same level of player or talent, but I'm not really comparing the player (especially since one was in his prime and the other is barely old enough to have graduated college) so much as the role. Buck's role on those early 90's squads is very similar to Vonleh's role on this team, and honestly I think he's very close to being able to fill that role nearly as well as Buck did.

I think that Boston will sign Tony Allen, then maybe would could entice them with a trade of Ed Davis for Marcus Smart and BOS's right to Swap 1sts with us in 2018. They would have a good, balanced rotation of: Irving / Rozier Allen / Brown Hayward / Tatum Morris / Davis Horford / Baynes With Crabbe leaving, we need a guard to replace him. It's rumored that Smart and Turner have both improved their 3pt shot, and Smart's defense would be a great addition. Idk how in the hell we get him but I like smart cause he would give us some toughness and defense on the perimeter that we sorely lack. (looks to me like Davis gets traded in this scenario) Phys Ed is a great guy but also probably the marcus smart equivalent at the PF/C position.
You could put Smart at the 3 for a short stretch each game. Done backup 3s in our division: Sefelosha, Roberson, Ingles, Johnson, Muhammad, Barton... Smart would be fine against all of them.
Boston wanted to get rid of IT. A report earlier this offseason quoted him as being clear that he wants to get PAID next summer (like $200 mil worth). That being said, my feeling as an outsider is that Boston acted like the team that needed to make the trade when in reality, Cleveland was the team in need.
It's not that he wants to, it's that he's GOING to. Kyrie is under contract for 3 more seasons at far less than 30MM per. 2017/18 $18,868,626 2018/19 $20,099,189 2019/20 $21,329,752 They save at least 59.8MM with this deal. Both teams needed a trade and at this point, I'd rather have Kyrie over Fultz (who they could've had if they traded IT earlier). Celts have a wealth of draft picks so the one they traded for Kyrie is worse than the #1 they would've used on Fultz and on top of that they got Tatum. On it's face it only looks like an over-payment IMHO.
The third year is a player option, and therefore basically doesn't exist. On the other side, it should be noted that Kyrie waived his trade kicker in order to allow this trade to happen, so that might give an indication that he's happy to go to Boston (or possibly just that he was desperate to leave Cleveland).
