I don't think Aminu's career should be brought into question, but the Blazers should at least have a LGBT community advocate talk to him and have him make an apology if necessary. Anti-gay sentiments are the bigot's "fall back insult." They know that racism is not tolerated in our society but in the locker room you can sometimes get away with homophobia. And I will never buy the "oh, they didn't know any better they were young and stupid" defense. As someone who was bullied to the point I was pulled out of school.....it's when we are young and helpless that we are most vulnerable. Young gay teens have the highest suicide rate of at risk youth. I watched a YouTube video of a Texas councilman that was absolutely heartbreaking recalling his past. We don't tolerate racist dialog of any form..... Why should we tolerate homophobia?
We shouldn't tolerate it but it's going to exist just like ignorance will exist. In the words of Charles Bukowski...people are just not good to one another. I'd say racism is in fact tolerated in certain demographics...not that that makes it right but the Civil Rights movement of the 60's is still a work in progress.
