To be more correct, I think this morning I feel more like Prometheus than Sisyphus. Why is my liver so tasty to the Eagle of Fate?

The past 4 years as a blazers fan has been like one slow, painful 2000 Game 7 Western Conference Finals. Elation followed by disappointment after disappointment. each missed basket = one injury. Right now is where the Kobe to Shaq dunk happened.

    I agree.

It wasn't as bad prior to Oden being done for the year but now it is.
Lowest point in team history (since 1977 at any rate).

What? Being a Blazers fan can be tough, but I wouldn't compare it to syphilis!

This is exactly my approach as well. I'm saddened on Oden's behalf and somewhat sad that I'll never see what I had envisioned between Roy and Oden and Aldridge and Batum. But I'm still enjoying being a Blazers fan and watching and discussing basketball.

You're right. The pain from syphilis eventually subsides.

Paul Allen has turned being a blazer fan into a joke. The last twenty years have been rough.

I only consider the last decade tough. During that previous decade we had a couple of teams that could play, those two teams were fun to watch. They may have come up short, but at least they made some wonderful noise while they played.

I can't say the same for the team over this decade. It has been complete futility on all levels. Players who were knucklehead criminals. Tons of teams that stunk. 90% of the draft picks underachieved. All while either having a GM that totally sucked, or one that sucked and pumped sunshine up your ass the whole time while sucking. That sucks.

He had very little to do with the team in the early 90's. That was just about all Larry Weinberg, Stu Inman, Jack Ramsay and Bucky Buckwalter. Everything from 94 on his completely his doing.

What do you not get? It's been hell as a fan of this team.

That's bullshit. The fact that I have been a strong follower for decades means that I am a fan. My OG post, which was mostly just a way to vent frustration, starts off saying that I don't even think it's really an option to stop being a fan. But that does not answer the question "IS BEING A BLAZER FAN WORTH IT?" I will continue to be a fan even if I am putting more into the situation than I am receiving from it. But is all this worth it, is the pain worth it? Is the heartbreak worth it? Are the constant let downs worth it?

The point of being a sports fan is to add some entertainment to your life, not a duty. So, if your fandom is providing you net pleasure, it's worth it. If it's not providing you pleasure or, worse yet, net pain...then it's not worth it.

EDIT: Caution - I ramble in this post and ...

I think you might be right. However, I have received a ton of pleasure in the past (still on occasion) and that is what created my fandom.

Now, let's say that right now the net pain exceeds net pleasure. Stopping my fandom is not really an option just because one side of the scale is heavier. For good or bad, I will wait it out and hope that one day, the pleasure will return.

To tell you the honest truth, I am actually quite happy in life and I have made a concerted effort for years to not let any sport affect my emotions too greatly. I let most of the negatives roll off my back. But this time it feels a little worse since two goals I have had for the Blazers were simultaneously squashed, watching Oden develop and a championship run.

But I will watch the next game, and the one after that, and I will take solace in the development of Batum, Matthews, Johnson..., And I will smile when the team shows heart, and jump up and down if the team makes the playoffs. But throughout all that, I will know that what could have been was killed in November 2010.
