Big Ben was only good when he was in Detroit... i knew that if he moved to another team that he would suck
Wallace has always been a beast on defensive and still is, but he's nowhere near Yao on offensive. Yao's not a bad defender either. Definitly Yao over Ben.

I knew Ben wasn't nearly as good as some of ya'll were hyping him up to be.
Ben is a year older, doesn't mean he wasn't great in Detroit. It takes time for guys who go to a new team with a new coach, new system and new atmoshere. Ben had a bigger impact on the game than Yao did last year or the year before that. Obviously that is changing now as Yao is improving alot while Ben isn't going to get better due to his age. Why should people say they were wrong last year? Ben was more important last season than Yao, however Yao has become a force and a dominating one at that.

Last year he was awarded Defensive player of the year award from getting the majority of votes from I think 100+ people in the voting process. (ex-nba players, NBA analysts, etc)

Now, as I stated before Yao has consistently put up better numbers than Ben. When we had our debate about a year ago, i believe he was at 20 & 9. Last year, he avg. 22 & 10. Now he's at about 25 & 10. You previously stated that Ben had a bigger impact last year, but Yao SINGLE HANDELY carried the Rockets by himself last year. Now if my memory serves me correct, i was "too stubborn" to see Ben over Yao (according to you). How do you feel about that now? <div class="quote_poster">SkiptoMyLue11 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I don't think it was just JBB members supposedly overhyping Ben Wallace. I wonder how they feel about that now?
Last year: Yao was slightly better than Big Ben This year: Yao is much more better than Big ben ^^^^^ best way to put it instead of the long posts.
<div class="quote_poster">Umair15 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Last year: Yao was slightly better than Big Ben This year: Yao is much more better than Big ben ^^^^^ best way to put it instead of the long posts.</div> Slightly is understatement. Yao surpassed Shaq as the best center in the league last season, Ben wasn't even mentioned in the same breath.
To me, last year, Shaq and Ben were the same. Yao passed both up in the 2nd half of the season. So thats why I said "slightly". Now he is much better than both.

How do you feel about that now?</div> Just as I said last year, stats weren't really an issue to my point. Impact was the most important thing and Ben did have a bigger impact than Yao last season. Yao did have to carry the Rockets last year but It was all in a losing effort most of the time. His impact on Houston wasn't as big as It is this year. It goes beyond the stats, Yao's impact on the game is higher than Ben Wallace's THIS SEASON...Ben has been inconsistant and watching the Bulls play he hasn't had the "oh crap, Ben is inside" impact as he did last year or previous years. Might have to do with different team-mates. I'm not sure...maybe he is just starting to decline abit too soon...hard to tell at this stage. Yao is getting great stats but his impact on the game offensive and defensively is far greater than It has ever been before.

As of right now, and probably the whole season, Yao is still my #1 center over Ben. Yao simply brings much more to the table than Wallace does. Big Ben is still a beast and I think when it comes to defense, he`s still the better defender than Yao though.
<div class="quote_poster">kobe23 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Big Ben was only good when he was in Detroit... i knew that if he moved to another team that he would suck</div> Since when does Big Ben suck? He has struggled slightly thus far this season, but that is due to him trying to adjust to playing with new teammates. He has still had a couple explosive defensive performance. His defense against Shaq opening night, an eighteen rebound performance, and four blocks the other night.
You have to forgive Rock4Life. He doesn't understand that there's more to basketball than playmaking/scoring and one-on-one defense. That's pretty much all he looks at.
I just gotta say, Yao is not injury prone. He played pretty much every game except last season. I'll take yao over ben any day, that's a no brainer. Year Team G GS MPG 02-03 HOU 82 72 29.0 03-04 HOU 82 82 32.8 04-05 HOU 80 80 30.6

You guys know about the left toe surgey he needed during the preseason. Fatigue may come into a factor for Yao Ming also needing to commit to China's National Team in the Asian Championships, FIBA Championships, Olympics, and I think CBA playoffs if he is still playing in it. Basically, Yao doesn't have a whole lot of time to rest and everybody knows he won't be able to play 40+ minutes every night.
<div class="quote_poster">Chronz Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">So because Nazr cant stay on the floor as long as Ben Wallace did hes somehow better than Wallace? You cant make an impact if your not on the floor. Ben had a huge impact defensively for 30+ minutes and thats what Detroit has been sorely lacking so far this year. Nazr is a nice center and if he stays on the floor is capable of putting up nice numbers but hes no ben wallace</div> What the hell are you talking about? Go read my post again. <div class="quote_poster">Rock4life Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">It's perfect logic. It's just you running around the question once again. What's a matter Durvasa? No per-min stats to throw out there to back up ur statement this time. Yao's stats have ALWAYS been better than Ben's. But my point was that it's funny how Yao has to go over and beyond to just to prove ppl like yourself that he's better than somebody who can't even shoot (Ben Wallace). If you can recall, I argued about 5 pages with ppl telling them that Ben Wallace has NOTHIN on Yao Ming. I was called "ignorant" "stubborn" and all kinds of names. But in the long run, i found my "ignorant" "stubborn" remarks to be quite on point. Funny isn't it</div> Heh. I was pretty ignorant back then, and I defended Yao...but exaggerated way to much thanks to homerism. Lets see: 05-06 Champions = Miami - You were right. Yao being better than Ben last season - You were right. Juwan Howard being better than Chuck Hayes this season - Nope. We barely won 1/3 games ever since he left the starting line up...damn, I'm a hypocrite. <div class="quote_poster">Chutney Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I don't necessarily support the argument, but it's clear that opponents are no longer as hesitant to drive it to the rim with Wallace's shotblocking missing. The way the season has started though, you could argue that the Pistons' system were just as valuable to Big Ben as he was too them.</div> I agree. <div class="quote_poster">Rock4life Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Y not?</div> That was too funny.
Let me put it as easiest as possible. Big Ben has real good defense. Yao has ok defense. Big Ben has no offense. Yao has tons of offense. Whats better no offense=a lot of defense or a lot of offense=some defense? So that's why I would say Yao is better. And it seems as if Big Ben isn't having much of an impact on the Bulls. Yao is helping his team muuch more than Wallace for the Heat. Yao is playing like an MVP. He deserves to be known as the best center in the NBA.

I think everyone so far has said Yao is better than Ben Wallace this year. The thing Rock4Life is making a statement about is, he feels Yao had a better season last year than Ben Wallace did last year.
