I think i recall a few defensive specialists being considered for mvp at one point but didn't have the best offense? so i get what you are saying overall. i think he is top 10 in the league but think he is a bit overrated when discussing as mvp. I dont think iverson won mvp and he took his team to the finals two years in a row. kinda similar situations. But i dont recall if iverson was in the discussion st the time or not.
Not gonna bother going too far back, but in the last 20 years you have Iverson, Nash, Nash, dirk, rose, curry, curry, Westbrook, harden. Almost half of the last 20 years have been subpar defenders.
good call and thanks. Memory is failing. Lol I dont know, im asking, but wasnt Rose considered a good defender, i also thought Westbrook was a great on ball defender... when he wants to be? At any rate thst list is enough to show me there have indeed ben mvps who arent great defenders as well so maybe Dame has a chance? But then the team ball factor. All of those mvps had a team go to the finals( not necessarily the year they won it) Though. if the thing is Dame is hurt then he needs to pull an lbj and take some time off. With the addition of Powell this is totally feasable.
There's simply nothing "normal" about season 9....Dame has had a rough year.personally as well ..roster changes...injuries...training camp where players couldn't be near each other...NO FANS....a huge change in how the game is played...the 3 pt shot leads to long rebounds which lead to fast break dunks that you can't defend if you're a 6'2 guard who shot it from 35 ft....nothing about this season is normal..every night I look at NBA scores and see teams putting up 145 pts and teams losing by 20...it's a weird season...COVID has not helped the cause...Nas talked about his brutal recovery from it....injuries ...yeah...nobody wants to talk about them but CJ was out from Jan 6....Nurk has been out for ages....chemistry is not there...defense takes chemistry on a string...we're not close to playoff level yet but it's not on Dame ...he is doing pretty much all he can and his assists are way up..
Joakim Noah is the only guy I see in the last 20 years to.finish top 5.in voting who one would consider being there solely for his defense.
