Is Houston really less of a jump shooting team then Portland?

I don't think merely looking at the percentage of which shot is most prevalent is enough to tell the whole story.

A team like Dallas (and Portland) is a jump-shooting team because their offense seems to rely heavily on shooting jumpshots. Neither team has an inside-out offense. Portland runs a lot of pick and rolls that result in a jumpshot, rather than in a successful roll to the hoop, for example.

Houston works much of their offense through Yao, and whether he shoots or passes out, it's just a different offensive flow than Portland and many teams have. Scola shoots jumpers after his man has collapsed off of him... Aldridge shoots jumpers because that's where he seems to end up with the ball in the flow of the offense.

I don't think that it's very easy to argue differently and I don't know that it's constructive to ignore the difference between the two teams.
