Yeah, they were probably being cautious at the end of the season. But that doesn't change the fact that he only played 32 games.
This conversation is about Sharpe, but you're attacking my position on trading Ant. My position includes Scoot. I don't care how Scoot looked that season. There are guards all over the G-league that Scoot and Sharpe would have played well with. It doesn't matter if they were successful. It matters that they get those minutes next to somebody other than a guard like Ant.
If Sharpe or Scoot or any basketball player is so delicate they will be "damaged" playing next to someone like Ant - they have way bigger issues going on. Wasn't it Scoot's first game that Ant was injured for like 3 months? Scoot played like crap as a rookie and it had nothing to do with Ant. Ant like all NBA players has strengths and weaknesses. His shooting was certainly a strength and that gives all the teammates more room to and ability to create offense themselves. Basketball is a team sport, players have to adapt to playing with all sorts of varieties of teammates. Totally fine to move on from Ant, Ayton, etc. But this idea that any of these guys are damaging any of our young player that would've been an allstar or such is beyond laughable. You think Kobe or Jordan or such would've accepted being "damaged" by JR Rider or Nick Van Excel or such? No, these guys determine themselves what kind of player they'll become.
You keep saying things I'm not saying. Never did I say they would be damaged. I said their development has been slowed. The idea that who you play with can have an impact on how you play (and thereby your development) is not a novel concept. If the physical tools are there and the skill is there (as it clearly is with both Scoot amd Sharpe) then any delay in development can likely be attributable to the situation. Once again, I don't care how Scoot played as a rookie. I fully expected him to play like crap very often. That's what young players do. I don't expect Scoot or Sharpe to be the next Jordan or Kobe. If your system requires that kind of player to be successful then I would suggest that you will not find much success unless you get incredibly lucky.
