He did fine in the playoffs last year putting up 25-4-2 on 52% FG and 42% from 3. We gonna ignore that stretch too? Even after his ridiculous last game, Klay has been largely trash this year. CP is playing through quicksand, Kyrie has very similar numbers to CJ right now, etc etc. The season is 2 weeks old. No need to panic and make too much of a slump. If this stretch happened in March, we wouldn't even notice.
One out of three is not a ton, Son. Maybe it seems that way because 4 of our 7 best players, based on that chart, are white.
None of that really matters. The roster has changed. the offense has changed. CJ hasn't adapted to it. Will he? I would say probably. He's a sharp guy. He has talent. But anyone who says that he is playing fine is just plain wrong.
Last year when Dame had his kid he also had a bit of a slump, so now that CJ has a bride, well? He'll get back to it!
The differences versus his career averages are not significant. FG % is probably the biggest difference, but it is 40% vs 45.3%. 3P% is 37% vs 40.7% FT% is 81.3% vs 84% APG is 2.3 vs 2.9 He is ahead of his career averages for points, rebounds, and blocks. So his primary issue has been shooting percentage which is not that far off. I expect that his percentages will normalize during the year. He's playing fine.
I don't look at career averages because his first two years he barely played. I look at his averages since he became a full time starter, and compared to those averages he simply isn't playing well.
I agree. We are 6-2 and scoring 119 points per game. Those are the most important stats on offense, and they don't mean much either at this point.
Absolutely not. His minutes are down over 4 minutes from last year (many complained we need to reduce his and Dames minutes) and he is shooting 3 less shots a game which would account for much of the drop in scoring. The rest of the numbers are pretty much in line with last year. Should OKC be worried about Paul George as his shooting numbers are atrocious this year.
It's not the raw numbers that are the issue, but the efficiency. 40% shooting, 37% from 3 (not bad, but low for him), and a PER of only 13.5. His advanced numbers across the board are by far his worst since he became a starter. Reduced minutes generally result in improved efficiency; CJ's done the opposite.
As Plat said, it's not just a drop in production. It's a drop in efficiency. Across the board. He's just playing worse. Is it time to panic? No. But I just think people need to at least admit that he's not playing well.
If his strengths didn't outweigh his weaknesses he wouldn't be a good player. He is a good player, and his strengths do outweigh his weaknesses. He is playing poorly now...but, this is the Blazers - someone is always playing poorly.
Matches the eye. His defense has been surprisingly shit. Offensively he’s always been inconsistent so that isn’t a surprise. He’s done well on the boards though. I’d like him a lot more if he wasn’t starting over Collins.
We better draft a defensive Wing in Next years draft, since we have no Cap Space. Any good prospects? @BonesJones
But that's not really the topic of discussion. Yes, the team is playing very well, but that's in spite of CJ. The topic at hand is whether we should panic, and no I don't think we should. As others have stated, it's only 8 games, but it's also important to recognize that something is wrong. He's not playing well. This is significantly worse production and efficiency compared to the last three seasons as a starter.
