If we're going to let Olshey off the hook for matching Crabbe's contract (which he didn't have to do), then we have to assign him responsibility for trying to pay Kanter a max contract even though OKC ended up matching. Both are bad deals and Olshey has to be responsible for one, if not both, no matter how you spin it.

Yeah I have to agree. I know i personally didn't like the Crabbe contract. I would have let him walk for sure.

I didn't know it at the time though. I thought Turner was going to be better. I also thought Zach would work out better. I now feel Powell should be a good signing and i feel RoCo was a good signing.
I think a lot of us wanted CJ to be moved into the SG position after the Memphis series.
I really have a hard time looking at players Olshey has gambled on that were really obviously going to be bad?

As I've understood it, Paul made the final call on every transaction. The GM would give Paul their suggestion and he would sign off or he wouldn't. To your point, I would assume Crabbe (and Kanter) were no different.

that's what was 'reported'. Not sure how true it is...

Either way, the role of the GM is to help keep the owners from making stupid decisions.

the entire "Paul Allen made me do it" defense of Olshey is fishy. Further, the same time that was trotted out as the excuse, there were other Paul Allen decisions that were added to the excuse. Seemed like PA was responsible for the bad decisions and Olshey was responsible for the good ones. Imagine that

It's pretty similar to how anything good done by Neil was done by accident, not by him, for a different reason than what actually worked out, etc. Imagine that.
