There is more to it than that. CJ seems to have ZERO PG skills/instincts. His shot wasn't as good as advertised either. Lastly, he isn't particularly athletic for a small guard.

I was all in favor of drafting CJ....but he just doesn't have the skill set and versatility scouts talked about. Even if he gets his shot back, he still can't fill Mo's role because he isn't a playmaker. Given how luke-warm I am on Mo, it really hurts to say this!

Yes, Mo often dribbled around aimlessly, but no more than Batum. Those two are twins under the skin.

McCollum has the coordination of Matthews. Those two fatties are twins under the skin. Except that McCollum will never be a starter.

We need a true PG who is happy with few minutes, sharing the position with Lillard, Batum, McCollum, and Barton. There are no such experienced PGs available except...Earl Watson. Keep him.

The guy shot 37.5% 3pt which was better than Batum, Mo, and Wright. His shot was great. Did you want him to lead the NBA in 3pt percentage or something?

He had some great games when Mo was away from the team and looked comfortable for brief times as a spark plug off the bench. But then Mo came back and his minutes, role, touches were sporatic. CJ had an up and down year with a number of bad games. He has some of the best ball handling skills on our team so he will be fine next season bringing the ball up the court if he has teammates who can help run the offense. With all of our team returning outside of Mo, and all of them knowing the offense even better next year, I expect CJ to be fine in that backup PG role.

The Damian/Mo pairings in the backcourt and CJ at SG lineups had major defensive problem last season. CJ had very few chances to play PG for us. I think the priority for our teams needs to be improving the defense this next season. Reducing CJ minutes at SG is a part of that. Yes we do need to add an end of the bench veteran PG to the roster in case there is an injury to Damian or a funky opponent is trapping us. But I expect CJ to be the primary backup PG next season and I'm very eager to see those lineups.

An offseason with Marion or Marvin Williams at the MLE; Okafor at BAE, and Ridnour or other veteran PG for the minimum would be very exciting to me. We'd need to buy out Clavier. CJ would be the main backup PG in that scenario but we'd have a veteran Ridnour to step into the role if CJ is struggling.

The interesting thing will be if we use our MLE and Mo doesn't find any offers for the 3 year contract he says he wants. Would he come back here for $3.2 million as a non-Bird free agent? Would we want him back? Does the team right now slot CJ in as the primary backup PG? Will the team target other free agent PG's first?

I would like to come down for the launch also.

Of course, I would have to shit in the creek. But otherwise I'd be excited to see your boat launch. Have you collected 7 pairs of every kind of animal yet?

So the plan is to turn CJ into an inconsistent shooting, poor defending chucker?

You won't go to any of the get togethers we've had over the years but you'll go to his boat launch? I see how it is.

I'm with Riverdude on this, Mo was a big part of the Blazers success last year and will be missed. He is the only one on the team that pushes the tempo and would either contribute with scoring or assists. Often he would hit shots when no one else could score. He took pressure off of Lillard and was also a solid contributor in the locker room.

I don't think he fits into the Blazers fans, especially wanting a 3 yr deal. But I think any player will tell you Mo was a big part of the team last year and why they were successful.

CJ may replace his scoring, but won't push the pace like Mo or be relied on to handle the ball the way Mo did.

Mo had his faults . . . but he is a bench player and what bench player doesn't have faults. If Blazers don't address the back up PG position with some proven PG like Mo, they will be in trouble.

We basically had 3 Mo Williamses last season. Look at all three's Per 36's. Except for assists (which someone else will pick up when Mo doesn't have the ball), they're all basically the same. And in some respects, Mo Williams was the worst Mo Williams of them all. I think between CJ and Will, we can simulate a Mo Williams. So let's think bigger and better for our Free Agent pickups.

This is why I'm not a big stats guy. No stats are going to convince me that CJ and Will had the same impact on the court as Mo last year. I know Mo would have bad stretches, but if stats show Mo was the bad Mo out of all 3 of those, well stats aren't seeing what really goes on out there.
