Take their license away for too many speeding tickets. Doesn't matter how much money you make, you can't buy your license back

Swedish Speed-Camera Pays Drivers to Slow Down

In January, Kevin Richardson won Volkswagen’s The Fun Theory, a contest for ideas to make obeying speed-limits fun. Now, less than a year later, his entry is in use in Stockholm, Sweden.

Is it possible to make road-safety fun? Yes, it turns out. Kevin’s idea is both smart and simple. As well as ticketing you when you run through a speed-radar too fast, Kevin’s “Speed Camera Lottery” also notices you when you come in at or under the speed-limit. It then automatically enters you in a lottery. And here’s the really smart part: the prizes come from the fines paid by speeders.

This would probably never work in the U.S, where speeding fines and red-light cameras exist as revenue streams for the police rather than as deterrents to bad driving, but the Swedish National Society for Road Safety, which worked with Kevin, has found it to be a success. The average speed of cars passing the camera dropped from 32km/h before the experiment to 25km/h after.

This makes no sense to me. So I go to school for 4-10 years, have hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of student loans and I should pay more for the exact same offense as a drop out working at Mcdonalds, or someone on welfare?

I respect them but I don't necessarily like them. My experiences with cops have mostly been negative. Traffic tickets and the like.

If the reason for the fine is to deter speeding, how do you deter a rich person with a small fine?
Maybe a fine shouldn't be the penalty. However deterring speeding is the goal. So, a $250 fine means much more to a person working at Mickey D's than it does to the hedge fund manager. How do you stop the Hedge fund Manager or Fucking Justin Beiber from going 136 down the road?

Never mind that, the money saved on not arresting them, sending them to court, or incarcerating offenders is the real windfall.

Here are some most startling numbers from the ACLU’s report with regards to the cost of enforcing marijuana laws:

$20 billion: The amount states will spend enforcing marijuana laws over the next six years.

$900: The minimum per-capita cost spent by California, Nevada and Washington on criminal justice for marijuana offenders.

$750: The low-level estimate that states pay for each marijuana arrest.

$95: The national average per-diem cost of housing an inmate arrested due to a marijuana-related offense.

$2: The average amount communities spend each day on marijuana supervision.

while i agree that the guy in the video is excessive for a purse snatching i'd respectfully debate DWB. im white and when i was younger was pulled over at 6am coming home from the gym with my gf because i "rolled through a stop sign" (I didnt) and 3 cop cars pulled up and 4 officers stood outside my car with hands on their pistols ready to draw while the female officer that made the stop ran my license.

ive been pulled over for "looking drunk" because my truck has shitty alignment and oregon roads are terribly rutted. ive been stopped at night on my way home from getting a burrito for head light being out and asked where im going, like that fucking matters. (i had the new head light on the passenger seat to put in in the morning)

none of these stops ended up in a ticket and i dont feel any were motivated by anything other than cops being bored wanting to fuck with someone.

some people enjoy it. nothing makes me laugh harder than the crazy shit people call me just because there's a badge on my chest. hell 9 times out of 10 baby sitting a drunk is less annoying than dealing with my shitty coworkers.

as for "hate crime" i think the term sucks. if i commit a crime against you it shouldn't matter what color your skin is vs mine. i should be in trouble because i committed a crime.

i dont give a shit if it's a black white yellow or purple man that punched me in the mouth, i care that they assaulted me and should be locked up for not being able to function in society. (although asians probably dont have the reach to punch my mouth, amirite mags?)

all the term "hate crime" does is keep us in a state of always thinking about race instead of getting the fuck over it and just being people.

Your small sample size is not indicative of the larger problem. Please go look at the stop and frisk numbers are posted above. They speak for themselves.

They should be paid way more. Including Hazard Pay. They deserve it. An LEO who's paid more would be less able to corrupt as a well.

    Per Google:

As of 2011, police and highway patrol officers earned an average of $27.05 an hour and $56,260 a year. Half of all police and highway patrol officers made between $19.77 and$33.65 an hour and between $41,110 and$69,990 a year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

NBA referees START at 110K annually....

Let that sink in for a moment...
