I could understand JC for Beasley. That would show me the organization is trying to get better. You give a guy with some potential a tryout, but if you don't want him, you let him go as a FA. Trading for Blake does nothing to improve the team, and eats up cap space. If G-Dub opts in, doesn't that leave us with like $9 mil?

Yes. Just enough to re-sign Camby.

I fucking hate this front office.

I don't know if it would be that bad a deal if we got a 2012 first round pick. We need a backup PG (Nolan Smith is not going to make it), and Blake's contract is reasonable. Of course then we still have the problem of finding a starting PG. Blake will tie up capspace but let's face it, no big free agent is coming to Portland. I would be very happy if we could somehow get rid of Felton also and get two picks.

Dwight about to opt in for the 2012-2013 season, meaning he's not going to NJ. Meaning Deron becomes available in the summer.

But we won't be able to even throw an offer at him because of Steve freakin Blake.

    Nice.

That's not true. We should have enough to throw at least one max contract at a free agent. Blake just makes it much harder to throw two max contracts, which was a possibility if Wallace, Felton, and Camby all came off the books. We don't have many people signed beyond this year. Batum will eat some of the cap space, but I think we will still have at least 14 million in space.

If Wallace opts in, we retain Nic's bird rights (caphold), and we get Blake, that means ~12 mil of caproom.

Not even close to the many teams that will be able to offer him the max.

If Gerald opts out, we're looking at ~21.5mil.

But with the way he's playing, I think it's almost a foregone conclusion that he will opt in now.

I think he wants to leave... and if Howard is off the market, that will leave a lot of teams with cap space and not much to spend it on.

Unless he's hoping to get an extension based on his past reputation, and doesn't want to be exposed for another year. But I think Portland should trade him to a contender for a pick or expiring....just to make sure he doesn't opt in.

I totally agree. This guy has fallen off a cliff in terms of this play. The thought of seeing him opt-in next year season is scary. You have to move him if there a deal for expiring contracts.

If we dont have a team to contend this year, then its all about clearing room and playing people who will be here so I agree they need to make a move that hopefully clears that cap space that he could take.

I wonder if the Blazers will just waive Felton if they end up with any sort of passable starting point guard before the deadline.

Maybe he'll agree to a buyout with less slaray so he can sign with another team, if not just sit his fat azz away from the team, this is a contract yr for him and so far it's stunk, seems to me he might be a little desperate to ge outta POR and try to salvage some future value cause right now he ain't worth anything

I would trade Wallace as well. He was over rated by almost everyone. (Myself included) He is a great hustle guy but nothing more. He should be coming off the bench for some team at about 7-8 million a year. Changing the offense to accomodate him is at the top of the list of what went wrong with the Blazers this year. I think Nate was talked into it and it was a stupid. They may have players who have the legs to run, but not the skill set to.

Wallace is a below average outside shooter, ball handler, passer, and finisher for a SF. I don't blame the Blazers for trading for him, they needed a spark last year. But long term it did not work out.

Move Wallace out, Batum back to the 3, and get a new SG. The SG should have been Crawford, but everyone played out of position because of poor PG play and Wallace taking up the SF minutes.
