Actually, I read a comment by one of the guys that did it that said with one hand. I see that wasn't the case after watching the vid. It doesn't change my point. The rock was virtually teetering on top the its razor edged resting place. It would not have been long before wind/freeze/thaw/rain caused it to fall. Go Blazers
virtually teetering on top of its razor edged resting place?? It that was so, it wouldn't have taken him pushing with a lot of force, using both hands, and it barely moving when it did. For the amount of force it took the guy to move it, it would've taken a HUGE wind storm, a LOT of freeze/thaw/rain to cause it to fall. And if it was ever windy, people shouldn't be out. I should go start looking for trees that are about to fall down, and just preemptively cut those sons of bitches down. A big wind storm or snow storm COULD topple those trees on the park blocks! I'll just get a chainsaw and cut them down! WOO! I'd love to see how people would've reacted had Obama commented on it.
What a shock that a leftie like yourself would also be a tree hugger, or in this case, a rock hugger. Oh, and THANKS OBAMA. Go Blazers
You mean such a shock that someone actually thinks we shouldn't be shoving big rocks down like that? or cutting trees down left and right? Yeah, not so sure that's the insult you think it is.
So pushing over a rock is equivalent to cutting down a tree? What if the rock had fallen and hurt a person. Could you sue the Boy Scouts of America for not taking action on a known risk to human safety? I think a lot of this situation comes down to how much notice they had about "rock preservation." I find it hard to believe that short of any notice, joe public would consider toppling over a rock is the same as cutting down a tree (one is a living organism the other is not). If there are signs plastered all over or is obvious at the entrance, than they should be held accountable. If all there is out there is a small warning in a brochure . .. well only a true boy scout reads brochures before entering a park . . . Oh wait
Why would anyone sue them? They're not responsible for the safety of the park they were in. Most people wouldn't see the rock and go "hey, let's push this over. Furthermore, let's push it over, and record it. And even more, do all that AND post it on facebook and come up with some cockamamie story about it being unsafe, despite needing to use all our brute force to topple it" I'm more surprised at the number of people who are OK with this behavior than I am them doing it.
The only reason the state park exists is because of these rock formations, so yes in this instance pushing over a rock is the same as cutting down a tree (if this tree was a redwood in the redwood forest or some other old growth).
I think the fact they recorded it and posted it shows even more that they didn't think they were doing anything wrong. Looks like a couple of meatheads in the outdoors to me. Funny because I feel like I am taking the unpopular/minority view. I love the outdoors (why I picked Oregon) and it pained me to see do that. I understand the outrage I say good. If anything, the very threat of criminal charges should educate people about this. But I don't think they should be charged with a crime unless you can show they knew they weren't suppose to knock down that rock. I don't think the circumstances themselves were so obvious anyone would know that you can't do that. But it's a case by case basis. Someone cuts down a big sequoia in Redwood, throw the book at him. I'll be with you on that one.
That plays a big part in it. And maybe they were even educated on the park before entering (some parks require this). I don't know all the facts and it is being reviewed, so there is some thing there to be decided. But overall I don't see it as cutting down a redwood in redwood forest.
If it isn't important enough to put the rock back where it was then I say fuck it. Didn't watch the video. Did it break? This is a pretty well traveled spot huh? I bet the guy who James Franco played in that movie 127 something wishes these guys pushed over his rock.
I think that rock was in a crevasse, and he fell into/onto it? not sure. that movie is a good movie tho, even if you're partially claustrophobic.
Ignorance of the law is no excuse. That we agree on. Or however I meant to say it. I agree, but like I said, ignorance of the law doesn't mean you aren't punished. (but that opens a can of worms about changing the law, etc..)
Yeah....never saw it. The rock in this video would have actually killed anyone it fell on. Went and watched it and here is a quick recap. Being a fat fuck I can say this....2 fat fucks flip a rock off it's perch. An older fatter fuck that has some cushy gubmint job goes on TV talking about how "HEARTBREAKING" it was to see. As a fat guy who is actually strong and slightly coordinated I can tell you that if one of those dudes tripped on something.......let's just guess a rock....and fell against that rock it would have fallen over and a boy scout on the other side would be crushed to death.
Law seems open for interpretation according to what is linked here. Is that one rock a specific "feature" or "structure"? One could argue from seeing what they have in the brochure it isn't. I don't think anyone would have noticed if they didn't post the vid.
