I love how people say someone is good or bad at something because some stat says so. People can grab a stat to back up the opinion they have easily. Watching the games is still and always will be the best way of seeing whether a guy is good or not.
I don't think the question was "who WILL be better", but "who IS better". So Beal and Oladipo probably shouldn't be on there.
Thompson is sooooo overrated. Go look at the stats of some of the players you listed. Wes isn't as far off as some of you think.
I think sometimes Wes is overrated by our fans but I also think that he is way underrated by opposing fans. So it probably evens itself out in the long run. I am a big fan of the emotional glues guys.
The quick reaction is to yes, but you get to thinking about it and its gets hard to say that if you are really truly looking at their overall impact for their teams. So it probably comes down to what each teams needs as to which is better for that team.
I don't know if Wes is "Top 10" or not. It is really hard to rank the SG position right now. For sure, if I could pick any player to start at SG for us for next season only, I can't name 9 guys over Wes. Wes is a solid performer at that position. And he plays an all-around game, plays within himself and plays a team game, making his value exceed just his raw stats. A lot of the other SG's are more specialty types, or are terrible defenders, or can't shoot the 3, or are inconsistent, etc. Outside of a handful of guys named above, the next tier of about a dozen SG's are all bunched together. Wes is in that bunch. Since we can't get Harden, we might as well keep Wes, unless we are tearing the team apart, and even then we might keep him.
That chart says JJ was our second best defender, and myers was 4th..you sure you are gonna hang your hat on that mm?
Honestly, with all other auxiliary factors aside, if Beal and Matthews were the same age, I'd still take Beal. I won't take that leap with Oladipo during the off-season, because he hasn't played a game in the NBA yet, but talk to me in November. I watched most of Indiana's games this year, and if he progressed at all this summer, I'd probably still take him over Matthews under the same circumstances this season.
I didn't realize how weak the SG crop has become though. Just looking at some of the names, it's like the PG position of the mid-2000's. Funny how things can flip that quickly. You've got Bryant, Wade, Harden, and then a lot of players with glaring flaws, and even in that three player group, two of the three guys are questionable because of their injuries. I really wouldn't want guys like ISO-Joe on my team, nor Monta Ellis, O.J. Mayo, or Tyreke Evans. I also think Eric Gordon could be an elite SG, but he needs to be in a better situation and have a better attitude. Evan Turner is considered a bust by a lot of people, but I liked his game before he was drafted high, and I like it just as much as I did then. He's a well-rounded, do-everything wing that will probably have a 10-13 year career (barring injury) and really deserves a lot more respect in this league. He's still only 24 years old, and I wouldn't be surprised in the least if he became an All-Star at some point in his career. For everything Allen gives my Grizz in heart, hustle, and defense, you can't overlook the offense. At the sake of being called a fanboy though, I'd still take him in a second over Matthews. I've seen some great defenders over the years, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone who can lock down the other team's best player in the 1-3 spots like Allen can. He's not a good defender, nor is he a great defender... he's an elite defender that should have won three straight DPOY's by now. Also, even though he's prone to miss wide open lay-ups, he's also the guy that will fly out of nowhere to keep an offensive play alive, so he's not a total wash offensively. Anyway, the idea of a "top 10" is too confining for this current group of SG's. I think a better way to look at it would be a tier system, with Kobe, Wade, and Harden on the First Tier. The gap between those guys and any of the other listed SG's is pretty large at the moment.
Today? At the arc of each of their games (Brandon was improving every year, while Wade's game is beginning to wane), absolutely.
Sorry I wasn't clear. Sometimes I live in an alternate universe where all our guys stayed healthy and content. Could you imagine what we would be? Three dominant players, each complimenting one another. Can you imagine the ring carpetbaggers that would have hopped on our coattails? Tons of vets coming here for cheap just to get some jewelry.
