I completely disagree with that. My father was born in Cuba, his family moved to Venezuela when he was 12yrs old. They were too poor for him to continue going to school. He worked, helped supported his family and when he was 21yrs old he came to the USA legally. He immediately enlisted in the military, serving his country during the Vietnam ear and proudly became a citizen. And according to you and Vattel because of that I am less of a citizen than everyone else?
SlyPokerDog, congrats belatedly to your father on his American citizenship. The premise, of course, is absurd. When a person is elected President of the United States, that is and always will be his (someday I hope soon her) claim to fame. A president may be known for other things, and for various policies, successful or not, but mention the name of any past president and the first thing anyone says is "he was once President of the United States". Even the unmemorable presidents like Millard Fillmore and Martin Van Buren, damned if I can remember anything they did but I remember they were once Presidents of the United States.
Thanks Crandc! My dad is a remarkable person and a great American. He also has that cool Ricardo Montalban accent which is probably why my mom was first attracted to him when they met at the military base swimming poo. (She was a military brat and has red hair so they are a real life Lucy and Ricky, lol)
Not sure what you disagree with Sly. It seems you father became a US citizen and therefore you became a Natural Born Citizen upon your birth. Your father never could become a Natural born citizen but you do automatically. I am not sure of your citizenship in Venezuela or Cuba. My own status is similar to yours, just different countries on the way here. Dad is out there on a small island in the Pacific, his last cruise after becoming a citizen here. http://patriotpost.us/commentary/18126
What's really strange is I don't hear my dad's accent. He just sounds like my dad. I forget about that and when I introduce my friends to my dad they always ask me about it.
The 14th amendment does not affect Natural Born. However, it was a rather ill advised update on who becomes a citizen here.

Here's a serious post. Snowden is nowhere near the record for being stuck in an airport's transit zone.
