They talk about Blazer players, with the same level of knowledge as players on other teams. You can't tell that they're Blazer broadcasters.

Last night the camera showed Mike Miller sitting on the Nuggets bench. Calabro said, there's the great Mike Miller. He and Hurd gave him some accolades about a career of achievements, then returned to the action. (I just looked it up. Miller is in his 17th year, with PER almost 15.)

Neither of them seemed to know that one year ago, Miller was a Blazer for 2 months. Olshey waived him during training camp only 12 months and 18 days before last night's game, a recent memory to all of us except the two Blazer broadcasters.

No one has any idea of what that means. As for my agreeing with E-Blazer (a rare thing, so you know there's something to it) that Calabro & Hurd need to bone up on Blazer minutiae both present and past, I hope you don't think that the example I gave was the only example. There are many each game. You've been listening to them, I hope?

Apparently you don't like analysis. To please you, I'll type 500 posts in a row that say just, "Rah, rah, team!"

You'll want to see my needle-sharp analysis return soon, like, yesterday.

By the way, when Calabro joined Bob Blackburn, I'd already been listening to every Blackburn game for over a decade. Then I listened to every Calabro game for his 21 years. I'm not giving first-time listening impressions of him.

How many games do we give them a pass on referring to a player as the wrong person?

This is the team you announce for now, take the time to get to learn the players. I know it's probably confusing that Crabbe has a new haircut, so look around during warm up and learn who is who! Granted it was only once or twice tonight, but how about a little homework for the benefit of those watching on a small non HD TV!

Mike did that all the time.
I liked Calabro - very professional sounding. Overall I noticed C&H less than I ever noticed M&M, and that's a good thing. Kinda like refs.

Still like Calabro (Although, please stop saying Splash).

Changed my tune on Hurd. He's reminding me of Antonio Harvey... talks way too much and isn't offering a lot. Sucks, because he seems like a nice dude.

I almost typed that in the game thread - don't say splash, don't EVER say splash.

Hurd had first game gitters tonight, just like he did in the first preseason game. He had verbal diarrhea. He was trying WAY too hard. It was obvious, distracting and annoying as fuck. He just needs to calm the fuck down and stop trying so hard.

I couldnt stand listening to them. I am not as big of a fan of Calabro as some seem to be here. Hurd was annoying. Maybe they will grow on me.....

But damn do I miss Mike and Mike.

For now, i will mute the TV and play wheels in the background instead.

Calabro needs to break that habit of calling every damn thing that happens. He's been in radio too long, and apparently even did the same when he was in Seattle where they used to simulcast the games on radio and TV. He got to be really annoying in the fourth quarter.

Hurd needs to calm the fuck down. Not every line you say needs to be some kind of zinger. This is where Rice's subtlety (whether intentional or not) is seriously missed.

    Agreed, 100%

I have a lot more patience for Callabro, he's a long time pro among the best. He would probably be better off on the radio. But to me the annoying part of the broadcast was Hurd trying to come up with a phrase or funny saying every time he talked.

like I said in the game thread, it's like he's doing an audition for NBA2k, where they have a list of phrases to say and that's all he was going off of.

    Boom. Mic drop.

The new team simply is NOT an upgrade. To me. However, being a Seahawks fan, I follow a lot of Seattle people on twitter and I will say - the addition of Calabro, to them, did not go unnoticed and they were mostly thrilled by it (even if it was odd for them to watch a Blazer game with the ex-Sonic announcer). Very welcomed change for our friends up north. Take it for what you will. I hate it. A lot.

Seriously agree.... was getting so annoying listening to the radio calls while I'm watching it.....

Yeah, I do agree. Whilst M&M would sometimes get TOO homerish and too emotional into the games, it was still far better than what I heard last night. I will give it some more time though.

Pretty much how I feel as well. Calabro and Hurd's emotional detachment from the team is pretty evident and while they're extremely polished and knowledgeable about basketball in general, they don't offer the same tailored insight that MB/Rice gave us. It's going to feel like a national broadcast every game (just without the national audience) and that gets old quick.

I don't find that I care. I liked Mike and Mike, but these new guys seem fine too.

I'll post soon about various other things I don't care about.

I like Calabro a lot...he calls the game both ways...Hurd is a sharp guy but being a rookie is rushing it a bit..he'll calm down. The difference is that Calabro and Hurd are strangers as the new guys and haven't gotten to know the team or gathered any back stories yet...give em time....I still mute them just like I did Mike and Mike and listen to Wheels...Wheels is so damned good....you want an emotional, invested guy calling the game...we've still got one..Brian Grant was great but you could tell he was new as well

I guess it is a rare thing when we agree on something, but I'm not sure. I have to run most of your posts through a jlprk-to-English translator just to figure out what it is you're trying to say.
