If you play Davis/Aminu 38 minutes a night, you can safely project that you will win more games than if you give those minutes to Vonleh, Crabbe, and Patty Baseball. We can safely predict that developing young players = more losing. So what? Trying to maximize our win total in 2015-2016 is not in the team's best interest. I won't speak for MM, but I proudly and loudly advocate doing what is right for the team, even if it means fewer wins next season. Oh, and that also includes not playing Dame 40 minutes in blow-out losses.
You state the obvious. You also bring up some pretty big strawman arguments. There's no way Davis and Aminu will be playing 38 minutes a game on any team in the NBA. There's also no way Damian will it will be playing 40 minutes and blow out losses. However, MM as well as anyone else who advocates tanking has yet to answer the question... Anybody???
Worried that the demands of next season with a barren roster will be hard on our big little man, just in time for his max contract to kick in.
I say we give Dame the year off. Save his body. It's tanking without actually forcing the players on the court to intentionally lose. Then, we have a lotto pick and some cap space for free agency. And voila! We're back.
Yes, I am stating the obvious...and how am I not answering the question? You asked if we should intentionally lose. I'm saying damn right we should sacrifice wins for player development.
That's not answering the question. Arguing that Davis and Aminu play 38 mins and saying Dame will play 40 mins in blowout loses, while simultaneously pushing a crap notion that not doing that equates tanking is just bull. Now man up and answer the question. It only requires a yes or a no: Are you advocating that we go out and make an effort to lose?
Green font indicates the statement is sarcasm. And I'll be honest that's sometimes very hard for me to tell over the net. With so many trolls who knows what who is saying these days...
Whether we try to tank or not, I think our ceiling is about 30 wins. The west is going to be even better next year. We aren't going to win many games against SA/GS/LAC/HOU/MEM/DAL/HOU/NOP. Any NBA fan can argue that PHX/LAL/SAC/DEN/MIN are better than us. We very well could be the worst team in the West next year. The few times we do play the East, we could do okay.
The thing people don't understand about tanking is that players don't intentionally try to lose. The GM/Owner just has to put a weak roster on the court that can't compete at the NBA level. I wathced a fair amount of Sixers games last year and they busted their ass off in every game I watched, but at the end of the day they just didn't have the talent to keep up. We will bust our ass off every night, but we just don't have the talent to keep up in the West. If we were in the East, that would be a different story.
A lot of good teams screw around during the regular season, trying to preserve their health for the "second season." I have a gut feeling that if our current roster plays hard and plays smart we can win about half of our games. While that won't get us into the playoffs, it would be a good start . . .
The suns couldn't even manage to win half their games last year, and that was with a much better roster than ours. Not to mention the West will be even tougher next year with OKC at full strength and improvements to most of the Western Conference teams.
Trying to tank can be counterproductive, especially because we just got a bunch of scrappers to play with CJ and Dame. Just let the losing come naturally and it will all work out, plus we won't kill the winning mentality in all of our young talent by pretending to compete for the next 2 years.
