And there was no way Wade was declining an opportunity to collect $23M for a season of basketball at 35. They would not have taken Crabbe or Harkless. Whether Dunn was a bust or not doesn't heavily matter when Chicago identified him as their target as early as during 2016 draft. They probably still consider him a great point guard prospect. There were rumors even last year that they were willing to give Butler to Boston for no. 3 and take him. There is no way they rate Crabbe or Harkless at the same level. They also wanted LaVine badly by the looks of it. No. 7 was probably the asset they valued the least in the transaction. I honestly don't think Markkanen is great but still, he shot way over 40% from 3-point range last year and is still very young.
Yes, it matters. But it's not the reason you trade CJ. If you can get a better player yes, make the salaries match and get it done.
Looking at what the going rate is for an all-star these days, I think we should retire this thread permanently.
He played alright last night, but fuck me if he doesn't have complete tunnel vision. He either doesn't trust the team, or just doesn't see them.
Yes But given that so many our on board with this idea now, funny to see how quickly things change, just from the summer
Nobody besides GS and maybe 2 other teams in the whole league have even the slightest chance of winning a championship. It's best to just accept that and be happy with what we get. I always want the team to get better, but I'm also realistic about our situation, the situation of the elite teams, and reality itself.
Lack of a bench always kills small market teams. Unless you have s plug and play syatem like San Antonio. Depth issues will always kill the Blazers as they go deep in the playoffs.
Someone suggested a scenario on Reddit that would have been pretty amazing. If we would have traded CJ for PG13 and drafted Mitchell instead of Collins, that would have given us Dame/Mitchell/PG/Whoever/Nurk. Oh what could have been. I think I still would trade CJ for PG13 if he would go for a sign and trade.
In most situations (given the way the roster rotation works with CJ and The Bench playing big minutes together), including when he's double teamed and a teammate is wide open, he's still the best option, because defenses are smart enough not to double off a decent shooter. A better selection of bench players would fix that more than forcing CJ to pass.
Are we going to be able to keep Napier and PattyC next year? We aren't talking about now. And Turner sucks most nights BTW.... Two years down the line we might be able to contend but right now.... No way.
Right? There are only two players I want CJ passing to - Dame or Nurk. Okay, maybe Collins, too, just because he needs to develop.
I was actually thinking about starting another for next year. Seems like it should be going all year the way these guys want to trade all the time.
