Either this is a joke and it's flown right over my head or I'm completely lost and i have no idea what you mean here? Olshey is paid not only to know the rules but he also has people working for him that are paid to know the rules? So should he have known the rules when he built the roster?

I mean; aren't our scouts constantly watching guys, keeping track of them, evaluating them. Shouldn't they be able to instantly tell Olshey who they rate highest for any particular need? Why is this taking so long when we have spots open?
It's a good idea to keep a roster spot open - for unbalanced trades, or to sign a surprising FA, or to get someone who fills a need given an injury.

I would assume proper roster make-up would entail a handful of assests that are desirable/tradable. I don't think that's a hot take.
Yes, I should have used green font. One of my man failed jokes, thats on me, not you! My post was in response to someone who said Olshey has very few options to make a trade and later clarified he has few options because of the way the CBA is written. As if bad or untradeable contracts due to the CBA were not in anyway preventable. Would kinda be like blaming a coaches bad defensive scheme on the rules of the game.
Or maybe because players signed in the off season aren't eligible to be traded yet. Nah, couldn't be that simple.

I didn't think we signed our entire roster this off-season. So what about everyone else? I thought we had 9 players that are eligibile to be traded right now, no? All 14 players can't be traded right now?
@Tince Dame isn't being traded. CJ, Nurk, and Zach are all injured which lowers their value so it would be foolish to trade them right now. RoCo could be traded but we gave up two firsts for him and he's played 14 games, unlikely to move on from a big acquisition like that this soon. Kanter could be traded but he's our only proven big right now. That leaves Simons, Little, and Elleby as pretty much the only realistic trade options if Portland wants a short term fix at the expense of the young guys. Combined they make around $5-$6 million plus if you traded all 3 for 1 you'd have to sign two more to the roster to make 14.
Yeah, I'm not really sure how anybody thinks making a move now gets us any value... Tylically you want to make moves from a position of strength.
