This was nearly half a year ago but it was an extreme eye opener. The two best private schools in Oregon are Catlin Gable and Oregon Episcopal School (OES) so it was disheartening to see one of them involved in such a horrific scandal. I believe Catlin Gable is a Catholic school.

Like at PSU the people that were turning their heads the other way eventually came out.
I can intellectually understand most crimes but ones against kids I just can’t wrap my head around.

I'm truly glad that none of that crap ever hit OES. In fact, in all my years associated with Christ Episcopal parish in Lake Oswego and with my Boy Scout troop that met in that building, I've never seen or heard about any sexual abuse with children.

Hey there, the founder of OES was a bishop and he's had dinner at our house a couple of times. I still remember it about 60 years ago.
My great niece and great nephew attended that school and they are excellent academic students, athletes and of a very high moral character. The best friend of my great nephew is the son of the president of Samsung. My great nephew turned down a basketball scholarship to the University of North Carolina because the discriminate against gays. No, he's not gay. Good looking kid who has the fight the girls off as they call him at home frequently. He just always stands up for the little guy because he plays power forward in basketball and took years of Tai Kwon Do. You got a kid that has trouble with bullies? Just make friends with my great nephew. My great niece graduated with all 'A's in her 13 years at OES except for one class one term where she got a 'B'+. She started a tutoring program at OES where the kids there tutor a near by public school with lots of disadvantaged kids. She's now attending Emory in Atlanta with a desire to get a graduate degree in medical research. She just finished her freshman year with an 'A' average. No, there are great kids there. There is a chapel there that used to be a church attended by members of my family before there was an OES. That place has been great from the get go.
 
They all seem so weird and isolated. I mean other private schools are too, but those two seemed like in a class in of itself. Like the prep school of the portland area.

Kind of like the kids that went to the international schools in town. Just seemed off.

I think it's been two or three years since he studied any Tae Kwon Do. He's putting all his efforts into his basketball. Got coaching from the son of Maurice Lukas and from the son of Steve Johnson who is also the grandson of Stu Inman. He's only a B+ student in school unlike his older sister who is an A+ student. ZW also worked under his sister to tutor disadvantaged kids at a near by public school. He and his sister are 1/4 Korean and are related to my wife, their great aunt.

Like what? I know the earlier articles discussed a lot of incredibly inappropriate things and flat out disgusting stuff that the staff was accused of doing.

I haven’t read all the articles but from what I’ve been privy to on this side it appears the abuse is more much more prevalent than what’s being reported. There are so many stories, it's mind boggling. 40 plus years of abuse, thousands of stories. I cannot see the future, but I expect Catlin will not survive this.
 
Well it seems clear to me that vows of celibacy clearly make a great cover for pedophiles to operate under....and the robes give them false moral authority over young minds...I think the church needs to revisit the way they approach spiritual guidance and clean house...

Catlin Gabel isn't religious.

Lots of pedophiles in schools. Public, private, etc. The teaching profession seems to attract many of them due to the obvious ease of access to young vulnerable kids.

I was speaking about Catholic pedophiles....and not that specific school....but the problem that is pretty universal...I never went to school in Portland but in Iowa a gym teacher was fired for flirting with her gym students. It's not exclusive to any particular school but it seems priests have the best cover up to hide it with the vows they take. It was a side note but hey....you said those schools are creepy...I don't know that at all.

You'd have to go to school in Portland to know what we are talking about. I went to a nearby private high school as well, but it was a little more mainstream. Caitlin Gabel/OES were pretty isolated.

Those schools are kinda cult like. Parents think they're super parents for sending their kids there.

The only way for this much abuse to stay hidden for this long is a fuck of a lot of adults ignoring a ton of problems.

@EL PRESIDENTE wasn't victim shaming, he was pointing out that the culture of those schools, from teacher to parent is fucking weird.

And I agree.
 
Its like the same kind of people that would homeschool their kids, but don't since they are rich and can't be bothered to take their time to do so.

If you found out that someone you meet went to these schools it would be a "ohhhhhhh", and then try to step away as soon as you can.

Or the kids who went to CG and OES and then could "only" get into a state school. Those poor sacrificing parents. It's the private schools unfair quota system holding their precious angels back.

I have known several students and parents from Catlin Gable and OES and never found them any different as my son played with several palyers from Catlin and OES in soccer. elpresidente is an extremely biased person and speaks negatively of women as well as other groups of people..

Then how do you explain decades of abuse and coverups?

Cup, your soccer example is similar to saying you've known several black students and parents and since no one ever yelled the N word at them when you were around there is no racism.
