If Kapono can get in the starting lineup and stay I really like the fit. With Eric you just get another post player, with Jason you get a shooter. Then when the bench bunch is in... (Battie and Diop when he gets healthy) Eric could come in and play some post offense. That would hopefully mean shorter rebounds and a chance for Tony and Diop to get put backs. Maybe I'm looking to hard at this...
I'm extremely pleased with his outburst. We would not have been able to pull that one out without him. It amazes me that Silas has benched him so much while we continue to get destroyed by the zone. People always used the excuse that he doesn't play D well, but name me one Cavs perimeter defender that does? Last night he may have shattered that excuse as we was moving his feet, staying on his feet, and coming up with critical steals. If he doesn't see at least 20-25 minutes a game for the rest of the season, I'll be upset.
Lets play it by ear on his mpg. His performance last night may be a one off (Langdon vs Detroit 32 points). But he certainly guarenteed an oppotunity vs Houston! I hope his game will fit and work well with our penetrators, James and McInnis, and post players, Z and Booz! To me it is a sensible change to make!
Everytime Kapono has been on the floor this year, he's been productive. In his 30 games this year, he's shooting 53% from 3 pt range. It mystifies me that we could be the worst long range shooting team in the NBA and have a pure shooter rotting on the bench. Granted, he's not going to shoot 5-5 from 3 pt. range and get a few steals and make several great passes every game, but you know you are going to get his effort every night and his stroke has been there all year. Bremer is a one hit wonder, Kapono is not. Oh yeah, and Z is shooting 50% from behind the arc. Why doesn't he spot up out there more often Karma? Get your boy out there where he can light it up.
Oh yeah, you can't get to excited but he did also play good D. Of course his assignment won't always be someone like armstrong, so we'll see.
Kapono has some obvious talent, if he play's as well as he has been I think he well start to get more and more playing time. For now though I wouldn't make any big changes in the line up. We are on the edge of making the playoffs, and if they make a change that they shouldn't have it could lose them there chance to be in the playoffs.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Bremer is a one hit wonder, Kapono is not.</div> Bremer was a game 1 wonder, and thats it. Every team needs a pure shooter/s. We have only one, so dont waste it!
Being from L.A., I got the opportunity to watch Kapono play for 4 years at UCLA...I can honestly say he is one of the best set shooters I've ever seen...I kept reading the complaints in this forum about how the Cavs lacked outside shooting and I was wonderin why he wasn't gettin any playing time...I'm glad to see when finally given the chance, Kapono made the most of his opportunity ... The one peculiar thing about Kapono was that in 4 years in L.A., I never saw him dunk once...that gives you an idea about his athleticism (or lackthereof).... btw, useless info...did u know that Kapono went to Artesia highschool...the same one the O'bannon brothers graduated from...
OK against New Orleans, we were struggling so Silas thought we'll give Kapono a show, to see what he can bring! Well he brought it all and more. Then yesterday, we were struggling offensively again. He looks to his bench, scratches his head, puts his fore finger across his chin and continues to watch his painful offense. What was going through his head??? Was he thinking of matching beer for every rebound Booz got??? What I am getting at is that his head seemed elsewhere!

When he wants to coach he's great, but some nights he seems he just doesn't seem to want it.
