I'd offer Kwame, Luke, and Vujacic for Kidd + Collins

Or Odom, Mihm, and Vujacic for Kidd + Collins

You do realise that's a total ripoff, right?

This isn't a simple case of value, just like Kobe wasn't a simple case of value. Sure Kidd doesn't have a no-trade clause like Kobe, but it is extremely unlikely that Rod Thorn would trade Kidd somewhere he wouldn't want to play.

Additionally, Kidd and Kobe have such an impact on their teams that you can't just replace their stats with other players.

Sure it is, at the end of the day you're worth what someone is willing to pay for you, or in this case trade for you. After the deal is done then people can go back and figure out if the team overvalued or undervalued their acquisition, but you are what the market dictates you are.

When it isn't an open market you can't use the logic that you are worth what the market dictates.

Find the last trade of a big name that was truly and open market.

Kidd hasn't even come out publically, but Bryant has. You were getting WAY more for Bryant. I know Kobe is better than Kidd, but, come on, not a superstar better.

What do you mean at this point? They were never going to get equal value for him in a trade

Yes, I do realize that. I know we won't get anything close to equal value, but come on, we can get something worthwhile.

It's an open market, all 30 teams have the opportunity to trade for Kidd, and I'm sure any of the 30 teams would take him for the right price.

No, it isn't an open market as Kidd wouldn't go to just any team and Thorn wouldn't trade him to just any team.

Would you agree if the Nets trade Kidd they are going to start rebuilding? This deal gives the Nets immediate cap space for a talent rich 2008 free agent class. Walton is a solid role player who can make plays for his BFF Richard Jefferson and Vince Carter. He can play minutes at either forward spot. Kwame and Vujacic are both expiring contracts.

Nets would benefit from becoming a lottery team and drafting a top prospect.

You can never replace a Jason Kidd, but this trade would give them the opportunity to starte retooling and jump start Marcus Williams development.

Last I checked, they didn't happen because of Kobe's no trade clause. The teams actually agreed on the trades.

How bout Kidd to the Lakers probably won't happen, because the Lakers suck and the Nets don't want anyone from the Lakers =P

Haha just kidding. I just can't see Buss(?) wanting to revisit a trade for Kidd, to be honest.

The Pistons trade was straight B.S. according to Joe Dumars.

I think the Bulls and Lakers definitely had discussions and it's very possible Kobe vetoed the rumored trades we've read about.

I just don't see a lot of similarities comparing Kidd and Kobe's situation and trade value though.

If I were New Jersey I wouldn't trade Kidd either because the Nets are still very capable of making the playoffs and anything can happen there. They've lost 6 in a row because of two key injuries to Carter and Marcus. I think Kidd let the emotions get the best of him, but once he sits back and evaluates the situation he should have more patience with this team. Still plenty of basketball to be played and anything can happen.

It's disturbing to think of a Nets lineup without Kidd.

It's even more disturbing to think of a Nets lineup with Marcus Williams, Vince Carter, and Richard Jefferson.

I agree that the Nets will never get fair value for Kidd. However, I think some people on this board (Mamba, CelticKing) are forgetting just who Jason Kidd is. Kidd right now going on 35 is still performing at a high level, the same high level he's been playing on the last 10 years. Otherwise the Lakers would not have gone after Kidd last February, Kobe wouldn't have made those comments about Bynum and Kidd over the summer, and the Lakers wouldn't be interested now. To say that Kidd is just "an old guy with no future" is dumb. Now, if we had to trade Kidd I wouldn't mind Andrew Bynum, 1st rounder, and someone else as a possible deal, but we won't win any trade for Jason Kidd.

Besides, I don't see anything getting done anytime soon. Darrell Armstrong is a few weeks away from returning, Marcus Williams is out, and Eddie Gill is backup point gaurd right now. It's probably going to be a month or so before the Nets can do a deal like this and by the time next month rolls around who knows where the Nets are going to be. They could be on the right track again or just as easily they could still be struggling and the rumors could be ignited.
