Quick also said we'd reach 50-52 wins, and didn't make it out to be as doom and gloom as the thread title seemed to be. He said "eventually" the youth card will need to be discarded, which is understandable but when you're playing four rookies in the rotation right now, that's tough.

gasol for kwame and change ....nuff said.

depends on how desperate a team is.

further more...if a team wants batum or bayless and u hear names like butler, wallace, lee, deng, etc....make the deal and run

if you hear names like nate and kirk....thats when u offer sergio, frye, draft picks

So what you're saying is that we shouldn't necessarily expect our current players to play better, but that we should get better, more experienced players. Perhaps then, a more accurate headline would be, "This issue of being too young has to be corrected."

In all honesty, I agree that we would be both improved with and well-served by an upgrade at PG and/or SF. I'm fully in favor of any deal that could net us Wallace and Duhon or Robinson without sacrificing any of our rookies or current starters (except Sergio--he's expendable).

I didnt know you could card a dick

Ive never heard Jason Quick but he obviously is a moron too. No offense to Blazer fans, but thats probably why he is stuck doing a smaller market team.
(you guys know what I mean)

Age has always been a factor in sports...are the Blazers in some altered reality...besides in Mixums head???

You know that when a player is being talked about as being talented, and maybe untapped, that whoever is talking about them is really saying that they are not playing up to the level they are capable of playing. Rasheed Wallace. Lamar Odom. Roy Tarpley.(ha ha ha I had to throw that one in there.) :ghoti: But I believe you get the point. Right now, with a lot of players on the team, you hear about "talent". Now you know why.

Good point. That is probably what makes it harder for him to find the favorable trade. I think he has gotten the good trades on draft day because he has correctly evaluated the college talent where other GMs have not. But once they are playing in the league, all GMs find out how the player makes the transition and KP can't snatch up the hidden gem.

Maybe Calderon and Harris are the perfect example. KP knew these 2 point guards had serious upside . . . but so did the other GMs.

what if no team is desperately offering up quality pieces?
and what if they don't? Btw... with his current play, injury history, and contract, why do you want Deng?
Is Kirk really worth the Blazers only forseeable shot of using their capspace? I'd rather they hold out hope that they can do a better trade in the coming offseason. I want nothing to do with Nate Robinson. I really doubt that these are the guys that would put Portland over the top... they're not that good.

We were doing cartwheels one season ago after finishing 41-41 (being the youngest team in the league, 3rd youngest team in NBA HISTORY). One season later, if we don't make the playoffs, it's a total disaster? Hmmmm...we could win 50 games and not make the playoffs. If we win 50 games (a 9 game improvement from last season, which is a huge leap), and don't make the playoffs, is the season still unsuccessful?

In Mixum's eyes, we could win the NBA title in a four game sweep and he would demand wholesale trades and firing the coach because we didn't win it in three games.

Being that we are 11-11 in our last 22 games, I would say we're on track for 45 wins. We need to get going and put together a win streak or the other teams will and we'll miss out. Somebody's gonna get hot. It better be us.

We'd all love an opportunity like that to arise, I'm sure this is especially true for Blazer management. But deals like that aren't commonplace and the other team has to come to the conclusion that they want to tear it all down and start over on their own. KP can't just wave Travis Outlaw and Raef in the Bobs face and expect them to hand over Gerald Wallace.

Why do people keep saying that even though it's not true? Yes, some rookie centers do average 20/10.

I think this season is a disappointment if we fail to make the playoffs.

But I think a big part of our team's mistakes and failures can be traced back to youth.

We're also 16-11 in our last 27 games, or 10-7 in our last 17 games, so depending on how you want to view it, we're on pace for 45-50 wins. When we win 2 of our next 3, we will again be a .600 team--as we have been all year--which is a 49-win pace.

You're making my point. You have us going on both an 8 game win streak and a 6 game win streak. That is exactly what we'll need to do to make the playoffs. If we don't go on a run, one of the other teams will and we'll be left out.

Seems like every year (when we've made the playoffs), we've had some prolonged winning streak -- even under PJ back in the day, we had a double-digit streak.
Our longest streak has been six games this season. I think it can come, but it's going to be really tough if we keep having these lingering injuries.

so say we lost @ GS and home vs PHX, that leaves with no prolonged winning streak but still with 51 wins and in the playoffs. granted we will drop a couple i think we should win but we will probably win a couple we shouldn't.
