He put out 6…..SIX tweets all about him. Really? Thats a “look at me….look at me….I’m starting a thread” type situation if I’ve ever seen one. Just go away.
what was your convo about? i know dame snubbed him all season this past year and he made a fuss about it. it's just his personality, but that matters very little to me. i think he's a terrific writer and the best one in Portland. but he's painfully lacking in some areas as many media people in this market are.
I have no beef with people that read him. For personal reasons I just can’t. He has gone at me on twitter….guy is a nut. I’ve been telling players for years to stay away from him. HA! I was at a table with him, my boss, Joe Freeman and the teams PR staff. It had to do with Greg Oden sitting in a separate room on Mr. Allen’s plane. It was so he could support his knee. I sat right across from Greg and we used to have some hilarious chats!!! Anyway the PR guys asked me what I said to Greg as we were landing to make him laugh so hard and I was telling the story. Quick was looking at me memorizing every word I guess. Went on the radio and told the world that Greg felt he was too good to sit with the rest of the team…..blew up from there. It was a mess. PR staff apologized to me for him spinning that shit. I called him out next time i saw him telling him he shouldn’t be using my conversations for his content. We got into it pretty good. We then went at eachother when he called out Coach Nate unnecessarily and I let him know he needed to cool it. Pritchard thanked me for standing up for them. Quick has treated me like shit ever since. The whole story in the paper thing was just a shot to my ego, but I didn’t like it. Take your break, save your 6 tweets so people will feel sorry for you, move along.
you've just explained why the guy needs to deal with his mental illness....thanks for sharing...I never liked Quick at post game interviews...I could tell Olshey and Stotts were fed up with him since before Lamarcus left....sucks that he did that to you guys.
I think it might have been Martell Webster who would say, whenever Quick showed up in the lockers room: "be careful not to step in the Quicksand"
I can wish anyone the best. Hope he gets his head straight and all. Thing is I've had two separate run ins with him and neither ended well. I don't trust him any more and i don't think he should have anything to do with the team. He's a good writer but from what I've seen not a great person and role model. I've even not only told him that but Mike Richman as well to just keep a certain buffer between himself and Quick. I won't subscribe to the Athletic because of Quick. Doesn't matter who they have there or what someone writes for them. I will not subscribe until Quick is not on their payroll. Simple as that.
I will always hope for change in people. That said, his interviews on 1080, he always sounded so cold. Condescending and felt like it was always a waste of time. And the weird thing was is for Issac and Suke, they know him and are friends with him. But it never felt like buddies talking. I get it's an interview and it's slightly different but even with them it felt like he couldn't care less. (this is my opinion and perspective). I personally have never cared for how he interacts with people and his seemingly abrasive way of doing things. However, I understand that mental health can contribute to a lot of this, and I will always cheer that they can change. Good luck to him and I'm happy he's doing something about it.
He showed little to no empathy towards Dame last year when he was going through shit, so uh good luck I guess.
Mental health is something that needs to be taken seriously. With my head boo boo, it affects me, and I struggle daily. Good luck to him
Two separate issues. 1. He is apparently an asshole 2. He is coping with illness. You can dislike an asshole and still hope for his recovery.
I'll share my Quick story. He was actually nice when I first started covering the team. Made me feel included. But that was a negative time with the team, and Quick/Canzano were on a crusade to bring down Sheed and the Jail Blazers. I had taken a different tact and was building relationships with the players. I think they didn't like how buddy buddy I was with the guys because I got the cold shoulder. Then, after the criticism that ZBO got for having a check bounce that he wrote to Portland Parks, I lit them up in an article. Basically called them out for always being negative and making it about themselves. I agree with HCP. They were extremely egocentric (especially Canzano) and they walked around the Rose Garden like they owned it. We did not get along. Quick looked burned out and that was 20 years ago. He didn't look like he loved sports anymore. He looked like he was going through the motions. I always said I didn't want to end up like that. That's one reason why I stopped covering sports. I started feeling burned out, and I had only been doing it a fraction of the time that Jason had. Also, similar to HCP, I was the one who broke the story about Oden at 24 Hour Fitness and got zero credit. I remember him going on the radio talking about it and these guys all knew who I was. It was only like a year after I stopped covering the team, but nobody once mentioned me. So I was a little chapped about that. Hopefully he's getting some help. I don't hate him. I actually think his writing and attitude improved quite a bit over the years, but I also don't see him any more so I don't have the perspective that HCP has.
