    Re: Unbalanced Trade?

I think you can get this done for just Batum and Miller for Nash. While I hate to give up Batum, there's just not going to be a lot of PT for him with Wallace starting and Roy coming back. I think getting Nash for a year isn't a bad idea. No one is going to trade us an up and coming PG for what we want to give up. Nash can shoot from the outside, which I think Nate really wants to have to free up Roy and Aldridge. If Nash works out, they can resign him for another 2 years or so and if not, he walks. His money comes off the books and Paul and DWill are free agents we could pursue. For all those who say he is too old, how did it work out for Dallas with JKidd? I think a chance for him to go deep in the playoffs would be a good motivator and we would just need to know that he would need rest during the regular season. A solid back up PG, other than Mills, would be a good investment, kind of how Barea was used for Kidd.

BTW, PHX is about to buy out VC, so they are clearly in cost-cutting mode. (actually, when haven't they been in cost-cutting mode?)

I know some Magic fans that want to do Miller/Batum for Nelson/Anderson.

That is the kind of trade that would be brilliant for Portland

I'm not convinced Nash will play at a high level for very much longer.

Jaynes: You may have already seen this video on our site that features Nate McMillan reiterating his statement that he's looking for players in the prime of their careers. He thinks this team is close to being a contender and if that's the case, it's time to make the sort of a move a contending team makes.

He's said several times he thinks the team has enough young players and enough old players. It's time for a few more Gerald Wallace types, you know -- guys in the sweet spot of their career.

You won't find that in a draft. Not this year and not any year.

This is a pretty weak draft in the first place. But picking where the Trail Blazers are selecting (No. 21) pretty much means it's a real long shot to get a player who could contribute right away. And the Blazers' practice facility is already thick with "project" players who are trying to make themselves into NBA players.

That's why I would expect Portland to do all it can to make a deal this week that has nothing to do with moving up in the draft. I would think the Trail Blazers' wish is to move picks, players and anything else it has for a veteran player or two.

Andre Miller would be a lynchpin for that sort of a move, mainly because of his contract situation. He's in demand right now because his deal provides the ability to create immediate cap space for another team.
Portland's No. 21 draft pick doesn't mean much to anyone as far as trade value. If the Blazers make a deal, I would expect the heart of it to be players on the team's current roster. I would expect an unbalanced trade -- a two- or three-for-one deal -- with the Blazers shipping out multiple players to straighten out its unbalanced roster.

    Blazers Edge:

Solely for discussion's sake, I concocted a scenario that fits the bill described involving a name who has been linked in a bunch of rumors over the last 12 months. For the sake of argument, assume roster space is properly cleared on both sides. Tell me who says no.

Portland sends Andre Miller, Rudy Fernandez, Nicolas Batum, a first round pick and $3 million to Phoenix for Steve Nash.

The Suns cash a check, add three young pieces, waive Miller to save a ton of money and then proceed with the necessary rebuild, committing to Aaron Brooks as their starter.

The Blazers double-down on the "win now at all costs" theory, getting the quality point guard and shooting they need to fill out a solid, tested starting lineup of Nash, Matthews, Wallace, Aldridge and Camby, with Roy and Oden lurking in the shadows as potential wild cards. The Blazers immediately enter negotiations to vastly overpay Nash for the final pay day of his Hall of Fame career.

From Phoenix's side, the hold up is whether Nash could draw a better offer. From Portland's side, this boils down to whether it's worth sacrificing Batum to upgrade from Andre Miller (who sat during critical stretches of the playoffs) to Nash (who can make Aldridge better just as Miller did but can also space the floor and improve Portland's ball movement).

    Re: Unbalanced Trade?

I like Nash, a lot to give up for him though for 2-3? years tops worth of play?

and I don't think this team is one player (nash) away from being an NBA contender, if Allen and mgmt really believe that then they are fucking delusional....

This team can't even get out of the 1st round...and adding Nash suddenly propels them to NBA title contenders? I don't think so.....

You're forgetting that we're going to have a 100% healthy and happy Oden for the entire season!

A lot of this doesn't really bother me

I'd like to see a different starting PG
    Fine with moving Batum
Fine with trying to win now

Just not sure if Nash is the right guy. He's 37 and he has back issues. Nate wouldn't be able to ride him like he likes to ride a lot of his starters, and he's only going to keep declining.

    Pass.

    Re: Unbalanced Trade?

Didnt his agent say recently that he wont be ready until January? I'll be happy to wait that long if it means he wont get hurt again and be a productive Trail Blazer for 4-5 more years!!!

And then switch out Camby (and, like, Rudy) for Iguodala. Radder!

Seriously sticking Nash into Nate's slow ass offense would just be cruel.

But he'll last like 3x as long if we run him 1/3 as fast.

I'm sure he'll thrive in Nate's "take no chances, slow it down" attack.

Longer then that because Nate will bench him as soon as he gets 2 TO's.

    Re: Unbalanced Trade?

I'm with you on this one. It would be a lot like when we brought in Scottie Pippen. The team would be super fun to watch and much more uptempo. I'm sure they'd win more games but it still wouldn't get us to the finals.
