Agreed. I see him as a quality piece for any contending team. He’s our second best player. Is it even close? Keep Dame and keep Grant.
First half of the year, second best player was Josh Hart - with Grant as a close 3rd. Starting ~January, Grant's play dropped significantly. February, Hart was traded... Im not sure there was a clear '2nd best' player in the second half of the season.
Second half of the season fell apart. Hard to accurately gauge anythin after the first 30-40 games in my opinion.
Dame still shined brightly the second half... Point being- elite talent usually shines regardless of the situation. Role players are much more dependent upon situations. Grant is a nice player, but he is definitely a role player
And worth a nice contract, but not a max deal IMO. I'm not sure there's another team that would pay Grant max money. I don't feel the Blazers should have to either.
Grant is a fun player to watch, looks forward the early vacation after the trade deadline. Getting vets that don't chew out Simons and Little for missing defensive assignments, and are down with Cronin's midseason tank, is a very important part of team chemistry and top draft picks.
yep all Portland has had to support Dame, besides Aldridge, has been role players. A decade of role players and every single one with major flaws. Hart was probably the most well-rounded role player
Grant is the type of player you can include in a trade that the team getting him can sell to the fanbase as "Well I guess it could have been worse."
during my hypothetical life I've bedded Sophia Loren, Natalie Wood, Tuesday Weld, Raquel Welch, Farrah Fawcett, and Rosario Dawson. I've also won the lottery 5 times, inherited a 400,000 acre ranch, and flown my jet to Iceland and Fiji. My wife adored me and never complained and my kids never talked back. Weeds didn't grow in my garden either and I never gained weight my hypothetical life has been great!
He might be, but it's odd that we're acting like it's logical to compare a guy who went to 4 years of college ball to someone who showed up at Kentucky and went to a few practices. Even Dame himself would admit if he came out as a non playing freshman in college, went as long without playing organized basketball as Shaedon did, his rookie year would've been pedestrian.
Neither did Giannis. Or Dirk. Or Kobe. All players arguably better than Dame. You have to be a little patient.
I don't like to overpay, but in this case, we might have to. If the offers are close he will bolt. But I really don't think they will be close.
I think this is bullshit. I don't think a guy who is in a contract year sits out the rest of the season after having a slump without having a wink wink deal with Joe. I think his deal will be announced as soon as deals can and I think it will be more than most in here will be happy with but not so much that we want Joe fired. Think Ant and Nurk.
I don’t know, but it does look like it’s mainly small market teams that have a problem turning draft picks into contenders. There’s no certainty either in a reload or a rebuild.
