Jerami Grant, yay or nay?

Should we trade for Jerami Grant?

  1. Yes, he's a very good player, and I provide evidence below

    12.8%
  2. Sure if it's not for much - I wouldn't give up the Pelicans' first rounder though

    54.7%
  3. No, he's overpaid and inefficient

    29.1%
  4. Other (explain)

    3.5%

I want 28M a year too. So far I'm settling for a bit less but fingers crossed.

There is no way Grant and Williams were being compared as players as they have very different games. Pretty sure it was being thrown out there as Portland again adding a mature piece & quality talent to an established core. Also, I'd add some context to Jerami's shooting stats. The guards he's playing with in Detroit are awful and he often has to generate his looks from scratch despite the D knowing it's coming. I'd speculate thats largely why his percentages have dipped the last couple years and would expect he would get better looks alongside Dame.

    Btw final verdict:

Detroit wins any trade where we give up our lottery pick.

Before the pick is even taken? Your takes are pretty questionable.
Lottery picks rarely work out. Final verdict because it's FACT.

I'd agree if it was Portland's pick

if it was the Pels pick and it was 11th or 12th?....might be a different call

Any lottery pick. Grant is not worth it.

Especially if it's Bledsoe + NOP pick for Grant. We would still retain our TPE and two seconds to play around with.

I do want to keep our own pick to draft a high level prospect regardless though.

Seemed like it was needed. Both the caps and the laugh I guess? I threw the red lettering and exaggerated the size so you didn’t miss it the third time like you did the first and second.

Did you think one of the current draft class after the 4th pick was going to be better than a player we already have or Grant? Seriously?

yeah Giddey and Kuminga have all star ceilings. I don’t view grant as anything more than a role player, albeit a good one. But I don’t wanna give up a lottery pick for a role player (an expensive one at that) If Aaron Gordon didn’t fetch a lottery pick why should Grant

Totally understand where you're coming from on this. I also would love to see an all star with either one of the picks but a wonder if i would be willing to pass on a sure solid role player that my Hall of Fame all star i already have is asking for?
Just my take? Right now (If the rumors are correct?) Dame would love to see the Blazers pick up a player in the veteran category that can help him now on the court. I have read that some believe that could be Jerami Grant and he does fit that bill.
I'm good if they choose to go after him is all I'm saying.

While they're close to the same age and offer similar size & defensive capabilities, Grant is a solid outside threat while Gordon isn't. It wasn't until 3 seasons ago that Grant ascended into starters minutes. Over this and those past 3 seasons he's shot 37% from 3 on 4.5 attempts per game. Over the same 4 seasons Gordon has shot 33% from 3 on 3.5 APG. But perhaps an even better comparison happened during those 4 years, as both spent some time in Denver playing with the great Jokic.

96 games for Aaron Gordon. 31% 3pt% on 3.2 attempts per game

71 games for Jerami Grant. 39% 3pt% on 3.5 attempts per game

On the other hand, these numbers for March don't look bad at all for Grant.

I actually just chalk it up to having bad teammates and getting discouraged with having to deal with so much defensive attention. My hope, if we end up with him is that he'll flourish as a second scoring option after having had to be options 1-3 for the last two seasons. I hardly think of 28 being a time that a guy like him would start to decline but you're actually inferring that his decline started at 25 or 26 without a major injury. Yeah, I don't think anyone is being illogical who thinks he might hit new career highs in being effective if he were surrounded on offense by Dame, Ant, Nurk and Josh Hart all of whom are better scorers than anyone he's played with the last couple of years, not to mention a high to mid lottery pick or an established player that a top pick would bring in.
