Latest duncd on dedicated a whole segment to admonishing the blazers for waiting too long to trade him and now being stuck with a player who’s performance is declining while his contract increases. they were flabbergasted that Portland missed the window to get good value for him.
Yeah it made zero sense to hold onto him this summer, teams like the Lakers were certainly trying to get him. I'm starting to accept he'll be here until 2028 but that's going to be super annoying. At least we only have to watch 128 more games of Ayton and Ant which ends next year We have 292 games left of Grant until 2028. The vets Cronin acquired here are so pointless. I guess I'm sort of glad the Blazers are playing decent and winning the last few weeks but it really sucks we aren't slotted for a high lottery pick in an epic draft .
I just wish it was Scoot, Sharpe, Deni, Camara, Clingan, etc leading us to all the wins. That's would be fine and speak highly of our future. Ant has got hot for a bunch of these wins which I'm not sure helps us in any way as seems he still has little trade value, but bumps us out of the top lottery picks, and likely makes it more expensive to resign him if we decide to try and keep him. That was the big strategic fail with this Ayton Ant Grant trio Cronin assembled. They play well and it hurts our draft pick. They suck and their trade value tanks. Either way the Blazers suffer.
I think they’re jumping the gun. The deadline isn’t for a month. If he’s still here after the deadline I’m gonna be annoyed.
Reports over the summer and last season were that we had first round pick offers and didn’t accept because we were holding out for 2 firsts. Now we are all desperately hoping that someone gives us one at the deadline. if that doesn’t happen, woo boy. Cronin should be fired. speaking of, given the nets struggles to get 2 firsts for cam Johnson right now, does anyone think we could sell Deni for the price we paid (2 decent firsts)? Seems unlikely.
So first of all, if we get ANYTHING for Grant, it's a win. The alternative was letting him walk for nothing and he caught a lot of shit for giving him that contract. He rolled the dice, and if he isn't able to get a first.... so be it. Second, Deni is significantly better than Cam Johnson. He's younger. He's not injury prone like Cam. They're not even close to being the same player.
& you believed that? How in the world did you not sniff out those "reports" as complete and total BS? Grant has had a terrible contract since the day he signed it. Many here said so on that day & nothing has changed at any point since. Teams have never been looking to add overpaid aging players (unless it's to dump another terrible contract), let alone throw in a 1st or two to make it happen. This is especially so now that we're in the age of salary cap apron tiers where teams get punished for exceeding set limits. I know this sucks for us but ignoring this reality is just playing pretend time STOMP
yeah, as soon as that contract was announced it was widely criticized, here and elsewhere. Not only for the salaries, but for the 5 year length at this point, a couple of 2nd's and an expiring contract would be a big win for Portland. Of course, in my view, that goes for Simons and Ayton too. I want all three of those guys out of town. Grant doesn't irritate me as a player as much as Simons and Ayton do, but his contract sure does as for Johnson vs Avdija, Deni has more utility but I'm not sure he has more value. Deni is younger and a lot less injury-prone so that probably tilts the balance in his favor; and he has a little 'better' contract but Johnson is a good pure shooter with high efficiency. Higher 2-way and 3&D value....probably. The problem for both is that they have had their most productive seasons on bad teams. I think there is some valid stigma attached to that in trade value
2 years at 20 and 22 million versus 3 years at 14, 13 and 12 million is "a little better"? If it was reversed, and we had the higher contract, I'm sure it'd be a wide gulf in value between the two contracts. But we have the good one, so it's just a little better. Of course. Johnson's also missing the D in 3&D. He is similar in size, but reading from fans of his teams, he's a PF more out of necessity, because he can't cover wings at all.
You continue to find the negative in EVERYTHING, I'll continue to call you on it. Balls in your court
bullshit. You don't like me and you are always a prick when you reply to me...like you were in that post. You imagined intent based upon one word and your own bias I didn't really think much about using the word 'little'. Was just typing. It wasn't some planned negative design like it apparently seemed in your brain. I know was thinking about the discussions we've had here about how Avdija's declining contract makes it less and less likely he'll sign an extension. In Johnson's final year of his contract he could sign an extension for as much as 34M/year. In Avdija's final year he can only sign an extension for 18.6M/year; 20.5M/year if he signs the year before. With that differential It will be much easier to sign Johnson to an extension than it will be to convince Ajdija to sign when his max as a free agent could be well over 40M/year so yeah, Avdia's annual salary is a lot better than Johnson's annual salary. But his contract isn't because of that reality. And I said contract...not salary
is it very unlikely that Avdija will sign an extension? is that a positive or a negative for Portland? is it very likely that Avdija will become UFA in 2028 and could sign with another team? Is that a positive or a negative for Portland
