As a Blazer fan I like this trade. Minnesota doesn't scare me, Philly "might" be better, but they're off in the east only see them twice.
On paper it’s a good move but then I remember who’s in charge and I just feel bad for Saric, he’s going to be handcuffed by that idiot.
Saric was the only good 4 at Philadelphia. They have to move Simmons there and allow him to play on the ball a lot from power forward position. Butler will improve them for sure though and will add experience. They needed to change something because that team was not that great.
Covington is a very inconsistent shooter. He’s a great defender though and they probably needed that even more next to Wiggins and Towns. Teague/Wiggins/Covington/Saric/Towns is a decent team. Probably not playoffs good but has room to grow. Most importantly the deal they got back is basically almost as good as what they needed to send to acquire Butler in the first place or just slightly worse. Dunn, LaVine and Markkanen are a better package than Covington and Saric because there’s one more player there and they are all in a similar tier (Dunn is a tier below the rest though IMO) but they also got a year out of Butler and a playoffs appearance which they had been starving for.
Saric was being held back a bit on with the emergence of Joel. Playing him alongside KAT isn't going to be a great paring. These are better players on paper for MIN than the proposed Miami deal, but a worse fit.
meh, silly trade imo. Doesn't make sense for either team. WTF is Minny going to do with Saric? play him alongside KAT and his defense? sounds kinda dumb imo. It's already rumored egos are clashing in Philly with Embiid and Simmons, now add Butler to the mix lol.
It's a solid financial move for Minny, even if the basketball fit isn't the greatest. Saric can be flipped in another deal since he's on a nice rookie contract for another couple of years. I could see them being a player in another deal down the road.
Both are decent players, Covington is way over paid in my opinion. I have 0 idea what CJ's trade value is.
Thing is, CJ is more than a "decent" player. (Some) people acted like any offer from Portland that didn't start and finish with CJ, was a lost cause.
I agree CJ is more than a decent player, but we don't know how Minnesota values our other players. Theres a good chance they weren't interested in any of the packages we could've offered that didn't include CJ. I don't know.
That's not the same. I don't get why people think Portland is held to different standards when it comes to trading.
I guess, I'm not sure why you believe I think they are held to a different standard. I'm just saying we don't know what Minnesota would have valued on our team, or if they would've required CJ to be involved or not. Maybe they really liked Saric, or wanted to send Jimmy to the east? I have no idea. I don't know what Minnesota would've wanted from the Blazers.
Who else would we include to match that deal? We don’t have equivalents of Covington and Saric. Our players are either better (Lillard, CJ and Collins as a prospect) or considerably worse (everyone else).
